Judge dimisses Coleman lawsuit
By Michael O'Brien
Posted: 11/13/08 05:53 PM

A Minnesota judge Thursday threw out a lawsuit against Al Franken by Republican Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.), who claimed his Democratic opponent had defamed him in ads.

Judge Barbara L. Neilson ruled claims by a watchdog group against Coleman referenced in the Franken ads are “substantially accurate, if not literally true.”

Coleman and Franken remain locked in a tight contest for the incumbent’s Senate seat that is headed for a recount. Final results might not be known until December.

Coleman’s suit centered on a claim in a Franken ad that Coleman is the “fourth most corrupt” Senator, attributed to the nonpartisan watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW). Neilson ruled it did not meet the law's standards for defamation.

6. Poor Normie, it's just not his day.
If I were a good person, I'd feel so bad for him - not.

2. Another one bites the dust.
I'm guessing Coleman will be filing a new, baseless lawsuit tomorrow.

3. Norm is an idiot. What a useless piece of sh*t he's turned out to be... look how he's wasting our
hard-earned tax dollars pursuing frivolous lawsuits. What a petty little chump. I hope he loses by such a painfully small margin that he can never sleep again.

On health care Coleman details a market-based approach.

He speaks of health care coverage portability, the creation of state health care exchanges, of an independent health care review board, of tax credits, of supporting tort reform. “We practice a lot of defensive medicine in this country today,” said Coleman.

According to Norm Coleman:

It's OK for him to sue over a TV ad; whether CREW said he's one of the four most corrupt Senators or just implied that.

But if a man with diabetes needs his left foot amputated, and the surgeon amputates his right foot, that man shouldn't get a chance at appropriate compensation.

4. "Wholly without merit" was the quote from the suit against Franken by Fox News (O'Reilly)
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,478471,00.html

'This is an easy case. The case is wholly without merit both factually and legally,'' Judge Chin said in his ruling, according to the Associated Press. He added, ''It is ironic that a media company that should seek to protect the First Amendment is instead seeking to undermine it.''

8. This from the man who suggested Al should stand down like a gentleman?
Surely this is in jest! Someone of Norm Coleman's gentlemanly stature wouldn't stoop to such behavior!

Fie, sir, I say! Fie!

10. Maybe he was insulted.
CREW listed Coleman as "one of the four most-corrupt."

Al gave him the benefit of the doubt.
