Wooten reassigned after troopers receive threats (Troopergate)
Source: AP

The state trooper behind the abuse-of-power investigations of Gov. Sarah Palin is getting a reassignment after troopers received threatening telephone calls from Alaskans and outside the state.

Public Safety Union officials say Mike Wooten has been on desk duty for his own safety in recent weeks since troopers began receiving hostile calls. Union director John Cyr says Wooten takes on a new role effective Sunday.

Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters says Wooten will be reassigned to the judicial services bureau in Anchorage.

Wooten was involved in a contentious divorce from Palin's sister. Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, denies booting out her public safety commissioner because he wouldn't fire Wooten.

So, if you can't get him fired, make his life unpleasant?

2. Palindrones would rather make his life abbreviated than unpleasant, I'd guess
At least considering the crap going on about threats against Obama.

7. Pretty much all true he did threaten to kill his father in law, did drink on duty....
Did kill a moose out of season and lastly did use a taser on his 11 year old stepson. That's what the internal investigation turned up.

9. So was he too creepy for the Palins, or not creepy enough?
Hard to tell with that crowd. Very possible there are no good guys, just bad guys falling out.

10. Wrong kind of creepy.
Not the kind of creepy that sells a right-wing political message--so, out he goes.

6. Well, I don't see how Obama supporters would be behind it.
Or even regular republicans. It would have to be Palin people. She is to blame for creating that atmosphere.

8. Apparently the things he "did" were not so heinous as to warrant his removal from his job.
This was thoroughly investigated so we have to assume that he would have been fired if they had the goods on him. It sure as hell would have made the Governatrix happy and Walt Monegan might still have a job.

11. Pretty sad isn't it. A cop can threaten to kill someone, drink on duty and keep their job.
A yeah and use a taser on your 11 year old son.

12. If the cop had done this on a minority DU'ers would have been screaming for him to be fired

But since it affects a Republican they don't really care as much.

The legislators suing to stop the investigation are also being represented by the Liberty Legal Institute, the Texas-based legal arm of the Free Market Foundation, which is associated with evangelical leader James Dobson's Focus on the Family and lists its guiding principles as limited government and promotion of Judeo-Christian values.

AMY GOODMAN: Explain who is in this council.

Right. And it’s hard to know who is in this Council for National Policy. What it is is an umbrella group of the most powerful figures in the Christian right; the biggest donors of the right wing; the activists, like Grover Norquist, anti-tax activist; people like Erik Prince from Blackwater and his family; people—
