Obama expected to name Peter Orszag OMB director
Source: Government Executive

President-elect Barack Obama is preparing to tap Congressional Budget Office Director Peter Orszag, once a veteran economic adviser in the Clinton White House, to become his budget director, according to several National Journal sources.

The Office of Management and Budget job -- seen as a key post to help Obama deliver on his domestic policy agenda amidst the gloom of a $700 billion federal financial rescue, a recession and the prospects of a $1 trillion deficit next year -- carries Cabinet rank. An announcement is expected soon, but could come with other personnel decisions Obama is making to lead the Treasury Department and National Economic Council in his White House.

The two leading candidates to become Obama's "honest broker" lead at the NEC are Dan Tarullo and Jacob "Jack" Lew, both respected former members of Bill Clinton's deep economic bench. Both have senior government and academic track records.

7. I think getting people who know what's going on
is a good thing. I don't care where they come from. We only have the Clinton era to draw from and then some new people also. I think he wants to shove stuff through quickly. I am with-holding judgement.

6. I think I should be named...
for a Cabinet Position. While I did vote for Bill..twice...I think I'm far enough removed from the Clinton's to be a good pick for something. I don't know about those confirmation hearings, what with my drug-addled youth, but that shouldn't be a big deal, should it? I'm not at all competent in government affairs, but I'm a fresh face..sort of like Sarah.

11. My only disappointment is that I'd love to seem him go WAY out of the box --
like Jonathan Turley for AG, Paul Krugman for budget -- people not on anybody's radar.

I'm sure the people he's selected are exceptional and will do an outstanding job -- I'd just like some surprises.

12. You may like DLCers and Clinton re-treads
but I don't and I know I am not alone.

It was the base that worked their assess off to elect him. Now he is totally ignoring them.

I do wish I had known of his penchant for hiring republicon lites PRIOR to voting for him twice.

13. Where are all these "suppositions" coming from?
None of the " preparing to" or "planning to" news leaks are what is actually happening.
News used to be based on what had happened.
'course back in those days, we did not need a talking to read a sentence and then call in 3 other talking heads to discuss the same statement.

Until I read it on the President-elect website as fait accompli, it is not real for me.
I can't handle anymore of this mental dashing from here to there to everywhere looking for clues as which speculative report may end up being real.

That's just me, tho.
