Denton (Texas) jailer told inmate he'd go free if he voted for McCain
Source: The Dallas Morning News

Denton police are discussing possible punishments for a city jailer who told a detainee on Election Day that he would be released if he voted for John McCain.

Police Chief Roy Minter and his supervisors will decide what disciplinary action should be taken against Chris Saunier, the employee involved, said Denotn police Capt. Lenn Carter.

Mr. Saunier has been placed on restricted duty and reassigned within the police department, Capt. Carter said.

It could take at least a week before a final decision on disciplinary action is made.

According to the North Texas Daily, the student newspaper of the University of North Texas, Aruto Ntel, 25, a senior at Texas Woman's University, was pulled over for speeding on his way to vote on Nov. 4. Mr. Ntel was arrested on an outstanding warrant and taken to the Denton County Jail.

While he was in jail, Mr. Ntel told the paper, a jail employee – presumably later identified by authorities as Mr. Saunier – "swung a key in go free in front of my face and said I could go free if I vote for McCain."

Old name from when it only served women, but it has been a co-educational facility for quite a while. Very good school, too.

18. Inmate says jailer sought McCain vote
Source: Examiner.com

An investigation is under way into allegations that a Denton city jailer told a detainee on Election Day that he would be released if he voted for John McCain, Denton police authorities said.

Police Chief Roy Minter and his supervisors will decide in the next week on possible disciplinary action against Chris Saunier, a nine-year veteran, police Capt. Lenn Carter said. Saunier was not on duty Wednesday and a telephone number could not be found for him.

Aruto Ntel, 25, who recently became an American citizen, said he was pulled over for speeding Nov. 4 en route to vote for the first time. Ntel was arrested on an outstanding warrant from McKinney for driving without insurance, Carter said.

At the Denton City Jail, a jail employee - who was later identified by closed-circuit video as Saunier - dangled a key in front of Ntel's face, Ntel said.

20. Denton -- that's in Texas, right?
Were people in Texas that worried that McCain needed that extra vote? This sounds like a republican thug who just wanted to flex his muscle a bit. What a loser.

25. It's about 30 miles from Dallas...
... and not really considered a suburb.

It's actually a pretty cool little town, somewhat evenly split between the liberal college crowd and the conservative natives. Great music scene.
