Poll: GOP image goes from bad to worse; "The Republican Party has hit a new low."
Source: CNN

The Republican Party has hit a new low.

Just 34 percent of Americans in a Gallup Poll released Thursday say they have a favorable view of the party, down 40 percent from a month ago, before the election.

What’s worse: 61 percent of Americans have an unfavorable view of the Republican Party. According to Gallup, that unfavorable rating is the highest the polling organization has recorded for the GOP since the measure was established in 1992....

The numbers are slightly up from a CNN poll released last week that indicated a 54 percent unfavorable rating for Republicans. Only 38 percent of those polled had a favorable rating for the party.

Meanwhile, Democrats continue to bask in the glow of President-elect Barack Obama’s historic victory on November 4. The Gallup poll suggests that 55 percent of Americans hold a favorable opinion of the Democratic Party, with 39 percent saying they have an unfavorable view. Those numbers are mostly unchanged from a mid-October survey....

2. Quick. Somebody tell Steny Hoyer and Nancy Pelosi: They don't need to govern 'from the center.'
They need to govern like true Democrats, as different from Republicans as humanly possible.

6. You know, it's funny:
I was reading a piece somewhere, perhapos Balloon Juice, where a bunch of right-wing knuckleheads were opining that any femtosecond now, the populace was gonna essentially figure out that Obama owns this economic mess, that they would rise up, cast the Obama administration aside even before it is sworn in, and the nation would see a bright new dawn of muscular conservatism unlike any before. Along with kittens, puppies, ponies and rainbows.

I think these clowns have started channeling Pol Pot or something. Or sniffing Carbona.

14. They are no longer the party of Ford, or even Reagan. They are the party of Rush/Hannity.
They are a bunch of nuts who think they can win by running on pure, unadulterated hatred. Americans are worried about health care, and they offer Rev. Wright. Americans are worried about jobs, and they offer Bill Ayers.

They will never become a viable party again until they have a Sister Souljah moment with the reich wing radio, TV and newspaper columnist nutcases.

Edited on Thu Nov-20-08 09:24 PM by Phred42
it's time the republicans and conservatives in general went extinct.

In order to save America as a nation the arguments need to be between Liberal and Progressives and Socialists.

20. Let's get that number down people!
Knock on doors, make phone calls, write letters, have bake sales with "crumbling conservative cookies." Until we find cure for Republicanism we need to do all we can to mitigate it's effects.

22. GOP RIP, 1854-2008...
Edited on Thu Nov-20-08 11:34 PM by Odin2005
Sad that the party that was born out of the anti-slavery movement and crushed the Southern planter aristocracy became the last refuge of the racist scumbags. Lincoln would be shocked and disgusted if he saw what his party has turned into. The two parties have become the total opposites of what they were 150 years ago. The Republicans used to be the Liberals and the Democrats the Conservatives.

Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Bob LaFollette, and other great Republican Liberals of the past are rolling in their graves.

26. Yes and it really helps their cause
for Newt Gingrich to come out with his hideous "Gay and Secular Fascism" bullshit to signal that he intends to lead the GOP further down the path of shrill and divisive politics. Remember it was Newtie who came out with the list of terms to define "libruls" in the worst possible light; I mean, what part of "getting thrown out on their collective A$$ big time" on Nov 4 does the former Speaker not understand?

centered massive bribery system; the NSA wiretapping, not just of "suspected terrorists," but of the Washington political and journalistic class; the extent of Halliburton/Cheney self dealing and embezzlement; the billions stolen in Iraq; the Rovian plans behind the slow response to Katrina and the busing of New Orleanians to the far corners of the country; the malfeasance or worse that led to 9/11; the Iraq war lies; the deliberate destabilization of Iraq after conquest to keep the gravy train going ... bring it all out and discredit the rethugnicans for the next 50 years.

30. Doesn't mean much - just that some are pissed at the party for losing.
The polling just before the election is probably more telling. That would include all the independents who have swung to the Dem side. This new poll differential is more about RNC party members who are pissed they lost.

The important thing is to keep the independents leaning left. That's the challenge for Obama and the new congress IMHO. Also, they should keep the Dean 50 state strategy going (starting at the local government level and working up) and show they can be populous.
