Obama weighs in on Georgia Senate race: Radio ad for Jim Martin
Source: CNN

He may not be going there in person, but Barack Obama is lending his voice to the Democrats' efforts to win back a Republican-held senate seat in Georgia. The President-elect speaks out in a new 60-second radio ad for Jim Martin, the Democratic challenger to freshman Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss. Martin and Chambliss face off in a runoff election on Tuesday, December 2.

Chambliss won a plurality of the vote 17 days ago on Election Day, but Georgia state law calls for the winner to grab 50 percent plus one vote. Due to the inclusion of a third party candidate, Chambliss fell just shy of that threshold, forcing a runoff contest.

In the radio ad, Obama says Martin, a former state lawmaker, will “do everything he can to help me change Washington and get America moving again.” Obama ends the ad with a plea to voters, saying “please join me in supporting Jim Martin for the United States Senate on Tuesday, Dec. 2, and head to the polls just one more time this year.”

Obama's turned more than two dozen field offices over to Martin’s campaign. A number of former Obama campaign workers and volunteers are also now in Georgia working for Martin....

A number of big name surrogates have traveled to Georgia to campaign for the candidates. Former President Bill Clinton joined with Jim Martin at a rally in Atlanta Wednesday and former President Al Gore campaigns with Martin this weekend....

4. Awesome! A GA friend of mine says that they're trying to scare the shit out of the rednecks
there by telling them that if the Dems (Martin) win, 'it'll be the end of America as we know it' (if we win MN & get 60 votes in the Senate, that is). I say hell YEAH we want the end of America as we've known it for the last 8 yrs.!!! :^)

7. this poll looks really odd
the early voting in GA showed Obama leading whites and African Americans -- are exit polls taken mostly on election day? I was pretty POed on election day when they didn't count the early votes but announced McCain for GA, since early voting was predominantly dems.

we've had early voting all week for the run-off and we also have it next week.

anyone who wants to help us can go to Obama's website and download calling lists for Martin:-) Thanks in advance!

9. Rec'd~ Max Cleland asked me to donate
to Jim Martin, too..which I did.

Dear z,

A few weeks ago, I wrote you about our party's Senate candidate in Georgia, Jim Martin. I asked for your help and you came through, contributing almost $30,000 to his campaign.

Our efforts paid off, and Jim Martin held Saxby Chambliss to under 50% of the vote, forcing a runoff election that will take place on December 2.

You can help put Jim Martin over the top and give Barack Obama another vote in the Senate to pass his agenda.

In 2002, Saxby Chambliss and Karl Rove ran one of the most disgusting campaigns imaginable, airing a television commercial that attempted to scare voters with images of Osama Bin Laden.

Back then, John McCain called the ad "worse than disgraceful" and condemned it. Well, last week John McCain headed down to Georgia to campaign for Chambliss.

Jim Martin needs all the help he can get to fight back.

Contribute to Jim Martin's Campaign

Democrats have already picked up seven seats in the Senate, bringing our total to 58, including Mark Begich who was declared the winner in Alaska last night. In Minnesota, a statewide recount begins today and several experts predict that Al Franken could prevail.

If Jim Martin can pull off a win in Georgia on December 2, that just might give Barack Obama 60 votes in the United States Senate.

I know it's been a long campaign season, but right now Jim Martin needs your help more than ever.

Thank you,

Max Cleland

10. Why not do more? It's the black voters that need to be rousted out.
Chambliss is shameless. I will never forgive or forget how he and the voting machines cheated Max Cleland. Chambliss is scum. Get down there Obama; Gore is going Sunday and Clinton has already been.

12. "former President Al Gore" ??
Not easy to disguise wishful thinking these days. What a better world it would be if that were indeed the case.
