Iraq warns of consequences of early U.S. pullout
Source: Reuters

Iraq's defense minister on Saturday warned of the dangers of withdrawing U.S. forces before the end of 2011, a date set with Washington in a security pact opposed by some lawmakers.

Defense Minister General Abdel Qader Jassim said withdrawing before that date would threaten Iraq's oil exports, enable neighboring countries to encroach on Iraqi territory and give free reign to foreign spies.

"The period of the timetabled withdrawal gives us enough time to complete our abilities -- training, combat and technical -- and secures us great support," Jassim told a news conference in Baghdad.

His comments came a day after thousands of followers of anti-American Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr protested in Baghdad against the pact, which cabinet approved on Sunday.

Does the title of this story sound vaguely sexual to anybody?

3. What do they think will change in three more years?
This is bullshit. If they are in danger, they need to step up and get it fixed.

4. They need to stand up and defend their own country.
We take 18 year old American kids, give them a few weeks training and ship them out to Iraq. It has been YEARS, yet we are told we still need to train their troops (and it's not like they didn't have an army before). It has cost this country enough blood and treasure.

6. The "Consequences" are a pullout of the money train.
Leaving those prominent Iraquis with just a dribble to stuff their holes with. End of period.

10. I was born in 1974
Therefore was never subjected to the Vietnam propaganda. Is this truly what was said by their government? We didn't install their government like we've done in Iraq... Did we? I know that south vietnam was considered a puppet regime, but we didn't invade first and then implement their government. Did we? I thought it was a government in place and the north seperated (for lack of a better term) from the south. Whereas, in Iraq, we have generally brought in people to govern who where formally political dissidents or exiles to govern. Am I really off on this?

So much for me still to learn I guess...

We did whatever we could to make the war last as long as it was profitable.

14. And in the end...
In the end, despite our "continued" presence, the communists took over. And in the end, despite our "continued" presence, the Shi'ites will take over. And in the end, looking back, people will realize that in both cases, there was no defense of freedom at work. Just simply defense of warmongers who profit off of war.

We are a shameful nation. Which is why we are a falling empire.

12. Well, I guess the Iraqis better start pulling themselves together
and making some compromises. I suggest the book, Nonviolent Communication by Rosenberg. It's an excellent starting place. And by the way, the Nonviolent Communication book is part of a a movement that provides training. Maybe the Iraqis should sign up before they all kill each other and can't export any oil.

13. I'm just thinking of the advantages of getting out of the entanglement in 16 months
US soldiers' lives will be spared. There will be a lower number of dehabilitating injuries. We will save billions. Maybe everybody will hate us a little less. And as a nation we will be able to better focus on things other than neocon adventures.

Sorry they've got some problems. But Iraqis should have focused more on January 20, 2009 than they did on EOY 2011.

17. The Problems...
For the Obama Administration are immense.

It definately doesn't help the cause that the MSM has painted Iraq as a Victory.

It leaves the new administration in a quandry.

If they remove support too fast and things do get more difficult over there then they will look like they have turned victory to defeat.

If they move too slow they will get the anti-war faction of the Democratic party pissed off at them. They are in a no win situation.

I guess the easiest way to pose the question to Obama is... How much blood and treasure is it worth to you to save the legacy of Bush?

18. How much does the puppet government stand to lose is the US pulls out?
How long would you give Maliki to stay in power if we said 'toodles'?

It is a good time to find out. We've done enough harm. We can't do any good. Not for the people of Iraq anyway. We've taken an country with a 5,000 year old history and bombed it back to the Stone Age. We've saturated the place with our much hated military and even worse, corrupt and greedy mercenaries who, right now, have blanket immunity from all their crimes and schemes. And we intend to command and control their only asset, their oil. Does anyone believe that the Iraqi people aren't wise? Do they really think that we can get them on our 'side' and they'll support the occupation? Because no occupation can work without support of the people (ala Germany and Japan).

We are in a foreign country as invaders. We need to leave.
