Philippines: Local Citibank in hiring mode as parent wobbles

CITIBANK plans to expand and hire 1,000 more workers here next year despite the thousands of jobs its parent, Citigroup Inc., plans to cut abroad, an official said yesterday.

“We’re investing in systems and processes, and next year we will have another 1,000 ,” Mark Jones, Citigroup’s country business manager and Citibank Savings’ chairman, told reporters.

“We’re building processing centers and building the business.”

Jones said the new jobs to be created in the Philippines would be in Citibank’s call center and financial reporting operations.
