UN urges end to abuses of women
Source: BBC News

The United Nations secretary general has said the world must do more to combat the abuse of women and girls.

Ban Ki-moon spoke as organisations around the world marked the UN's International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

<snip>

Women between the ages of 15 and 44 are at greater risk from rape and domestic violence than from cancer, traffic accidents, war and malaria, says the UN.

It says violence against women has been reported in every international or non-international warzone and that half of all women murdered are killed by their current or former partner.

2. It would be nice if the US ratified the Convention to End Discrimination Against Women.
It's unconscionable that the US is not a party to the Convention. Perhaps Barack will ask that it be put back on the Senate's calendar.

3. Good timing for London cops in 'Operation Athena'
300 arrested in dawn raids on violent crime
Justin Davenport, Crime Correspondent

POLICE launched mass raids across London today in a crackdown on domestic and hate crimes.

Up to 300 people faced arrest in the early morning operation codenamed Operation Athena in which almost 500 officers were involved.

Raids were taking place in all 32 London boroughs and a spokeswoman said: "This sets out to transfer the fear onto violent offenders while encouraging more victims to come forward by increasing public confidence."

5. The UN also has damage control in mind for making a worded statement about womens rights
Artist Miguel Barcelo unveils $23 million ceiling at UN

GENEVA – Spanish artist Miquel Barcelo unveiled his lavish, $23 million ceiling painting at the United Nations on Tuesday, a project that has evoked controversy over its hefty price tag.

In a ceremony with Spain's King Juan Carlos and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Barcelo gave the world its first glimpse of the 16,000-square-foot (1,500-square-meter) elliptical dome full of bright colors and torn aluminum. The most striking element may be the hundreds of small icicle-shaped pieces that dangle down from the ceiling.

UN concerned over womens issues ? UN urges end to abuses of women
Well....
They'll have to define which abuse issues to address and in what order they should be considered since the article is hinting that there is a problem in warzones

10 arrested in Afghan acid attack

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - Security forces have arrested 10 men suspected of involvement in a Taliban-ordered acid attack on schoolgirls in southern Afghanistan and some have confessed, authorities said Tuesday.

The 10 were Afghans who had each been promised 100,000 Pakistani rupees ($1,300 US) by Taliban rebels in Pakistan to carry out the Nov. 12 attack

6. TALK TALK TALK ...
and no one ever DOES anything about it! lorena bobbitt had the right idea. Women need to gang up on abusive men and beat the living SHIT out of them and keep doing it till they stop. They kill a woman kill every man involved. stop acting like victims and attack back.
