9/11 Panel to Seek (Public) Testimony From Bush
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/13/politics/13PANE.html?hp

Published: February 13, 2004

The independent commission investigating the Sept. 11 terror attacks said Thursday that it would seek public testimony from President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney about intelligence agency warnings they might have received before the attacks, a move that could provoke a new showdown between the panel and the White House.

The panel said a similar request for public testimony was being made to former President Bill Clinton and former Vice President Al Gore, as well as to senior Bush administration officials including Condoleezza Rice, the national security adviser; George J. Tenet, the director of central intelligence; Attorney General John Ashcroft; Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld; and Secretary of State Colin L. Powell.

<snip>

The request leaves Mr. Bush with an uncomfortable choice: either testify before the commission and answer a host of potentially embarrassing questions about intelligence and law enforcement in the months before the Sept. 11 attacks, or refuse to testify, providing Democrats with election-year ammunition to argue that the White House is stonewalling the inquiry.

Gee, I think I hear water gushing?

1. Just asking but
What is the scope of the 911 commission? Can they hold public hearings and ask for testimony? I just don't know. I hope so, cause I really really really like this sticky situation for the cabal. Of course, Clinton and Gore will readily agree.....

2. Testify? The Royal Me?

No way in hell we'll see that. That would require Chimpy to think on his feet and answer questions about the single most tragic day in our nation's history at the same time.

You don't want to over-tax the poor boy now, do you?

Plus, Peggy Noonan said he shouldn't be allowed to do Q&A anymore, after his MTP disaster. The Nooner says he should be restricted to reading speeches written by other people. For once, I think she has a point.

So maybe Chimpy can get a note from Dr. Noonan permanently excusing him from the spontaneous interrogative. That way, little Georgie can evade responsibility again, which is the story of his absurd little life

8. I like that....
"evade responsibility again, which is the story of his absurd little life"

His absurd little life. His character was exposed for 20 minutes on 9/11 for all to see. He was a cheerleader in college, he's a cheerleader for corporate interests that selected him precisely because he has no character.

Hard to believe that mainstream Republicans can look to him as the epitome for what they value in integrity and leadership.

9. The Big Dog said yes already?
I shoulda figured. He loves the limelight- but I don't mind in this case. Let him tear the "9/11 was Clinton's Fault" story to pieces.

4. Off topic, but thanks for the image in your sig line
It's so often I hear of Bush and Blair being war crims (and lets face it, they are) but the junior partner, my own Prime Miniature, Howard, is so often overlooked.

I don't know if you're an Aussie or not, but this Aussie thanks you for not overlooking us in this most alarming of times.

13. No I'm not an Aussie but the picture is.
It comes from the Sydney Morning Herald and I thought it was perfect for the message in my sig line. We wouldn't want to leave out such an important 'coalition' partner now would we?

16. Nope, they're all tainted, and what hurts one will hurt the others too
I hope.

Howard's been acting like a schoolgirl in love with Bush, and I hope
he's in for a very rude awakening.

11. Big Dog and Al have nothing to hide.
Their record in the fight against terror is outstanding! All bunnypants* had to do was follow their recommendations and 911 would not have happened.

14. Don't get your hopes up.
so far the 9-11 Commission has backed down on every ultimatum that they have issued. By the time they finish arguing with the WH about the terms of the deal, W will be testifying to his own staff, in private and then the testimony will be kept in secret from even the members of the commission. The commission will make some sort of statement saying that they will accept a summary of Bu$h's testimony and they will only be allowed to read it at the WH and will not even be allowed to make notes about it.
