Campaign gets dirty as muckrakers turn over Kerry's personal life and Bush
troubles return

The United States election is still almost nine months away. But if recent events are any guide, the campaign already promises to be the dirtiest on record - with much of the muckraking centred not on Iraq, but allegations of sexual infidelity and a war which ended 30 years ago.

This week President George Bush's record in the National Guard during the Vietnam war was submitted to sharp new questioning. Old photos have surfaced of John Kerry - his most likely opponent this autumn - sitting at an anti-Vietnam war rally three rows behind the actress Jane Fonda, a favourite conservative bête noire

In what may be more than co-incidence, The Harvard Crimson magazine has unearthed an interview Mr Kerry gave the student paper in 1970, urging that US troops be put under the command of the United Nations - again a subject that makes Republicans apoplectic.

1. fasten your seatbelts.. we're in for a bumpy ride.
It's getting ugly much sooner than I had thought. I thought it would get his way only after a nomination was locked in. I'm realizing why many, many people don't vote at all. Politics.. disgusting business.

8. With Karl Rove at the steering wheel, what do you expect?
He is a major prick who will stop at nothing to get Bush what he doesn't deserve.

4. Sorry, but Bush's crimes are not personal and we cannot allow
the treasonous GOP media to paint it that way.

6. Excuse me--Bush's little problem
has zero to do with his personal life, unlike whatever this Kerry BS is. Bush had a relationship with Uncle Sam, and he flouted it. It appears whatever Kerry did, if he even did it, is between him and his wife and this woman.

7. American politics has become one huge game of "Gotcha!" . . .
issues? . . . we don't need no stinkin' issues! . . . all we need is gossip, inuendo, and dirt . . . best shit-slinger wins . . . isn't this how the founding fathers envisioned things? . . .

10. Bring it on, GOP nutsuckers
In 2000 Al Gore wouldn't sling mud. I'm still pissed off at him for restraining himself. To Rove and the rest of the Republican scum I say bring it on. While they're throwing mud we're going to be throwing shit-bombs. It's like I was saying to some friends of mine last night; it's time for some ultra-violence, ultra-violence, ultra violence!!

9. The Jane Fonda angle will only work with his core right wing base...
Nowadays most voters realize that Viet-Nam was a stupid, tragic war and that Jane Fonda and Kerry turned out to be right. Rove is getting desperate and is trying to fling mud.

11. I wonder at what point the attacks will become personal enough for
Theresa Heinz Kerry to get out her checkbook? She did issue
a warning, and I thought that the general wisdom was that
personal issues as they related to her were off limits.
Hmmmm. My gut tells me that this is a desperation ploy.
If this is an ace why show it out now before he actually has the nomination sewn up? Very curious actions indeed.

12. She can't.
From everything I've read..... She's limited to $2000 in the primary, $2000 in the general.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

14. WAR
The Neo Fascists declared war on us the day they siezed power. We must fight back with every legal means possible.

Once Kerry gets the nomination he should ask Edwards to be his running mate. They should go on every TV show possible. They both should fight hard and pound out the Dem vision for America. The gloves must come off for all Dems.
