"Morning Joe" Team In Talks To Start Radio Show; "before Limbaugh and after Imus"
Source: TV Newser

The Morning Joe team of Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are looking for a radio gig — and it sounds like a deal is close. Although Scarborough tells TVNewser "we haven't signed any deals yet," he says, "If we're going to get into radio, we want it to be by the beginning of the year."

The New York Daily News' David Hinckley writes, "Some reports on the New York Radio Message Board yesterday say WABC is eying Joe Scarborough."

Scarborough says, "We've talked to Citadel (which owns WABC-AM), and several other networks." But Scarborough is clear — WABC, is where he wants to be. "If we had our druthers we'd sign with Citadel, only because they launched Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, all the most successful talk shows in the country," he says. "As I explained to Mika, there are two types of radio shows, those that have clearance on WABC, and those that don't have clearance on WABC. It is just a radio station like the New York Times is just a newspaper," he says facetiously.

Scarborough says they'll know "in the next couple weeks" whether a deal can be reached. The show would most likely air from 10am-Noon, before Limbaugh and after Don Imus, who, in a twist of media fate, Scarborough replaced on MSNBC-TV.

"We talk politics and news for three hours straight and do it with a light touch. Obviously there are people that think that will work on the radio too," he says. "If we do a radio show, it's going to be just like the TV show."

WABC-AM is also home to three other hosts who've all had TV shows on MSNBC: Laura Ingraham, Monica Crowley and Curtis Sliwa.

1. Great. Stick em all on WABC-FM. That way they can all be one big happy
family, and it will make it easier to avoid them.

6. Explains a lot, doesn't it? Am I right that they can make more in radio...
if successful, than on MSNBC? Imus, Limbaugh, etc., have made megabuck millions.

3. At least on radio we won't have to actually look at them.
Be thankful for that.

23. LOL - I've said before that Imus resembles the Cryptkeeper in a cowboy hat.
Not to mention what else is on top of his scalp. I remember Barbara Ehrenreich's article in response to the Rutgers "incident," in which she said her first reaction to Imus's comments, was that he had no right to be criticizing anyone else's hair.

5. radio and wingnuts - they go hand in hand

I guess they can't have their eyes AND their ears stimulated at the same time, so they prefer radio. Keeps their brain from going into overload

7. Oh, THAT'll work. Eveyone talking at once is great radio.
On the other hand, Mika might be better off if we can't see that glazed, lost look she always has going.

11. Well after his little 'slip' the other day, they will need that 7 second delay for sure
unless they want to support the FCC with the fines they will pay.

If it gets him off my TV in the morning, I'm for it. If they get it with the TV show, forget it.

12. Anything, as long as Mika is too busy to do TV.
I not only turn off my set when I see her, I boycott any shows I've seen her on in the past, so I won't accidentally catch a glimpse of her in passing.

14. Good --
that means they're going to replace Curtis Sliwa. What makes anyone think this guy's a political expert is beyond me. And his Noo Yawk accent drives me up the wall.

To explain -- I drive around for business most of the morning and well into the afternoon. I listen to the EIB ("Excellence in Broadcasting") Network for entertainment. Actually, I find it so revolting that it gets my pulse rate up and keeps me from falling asleep.

20. Oh God please no...tell me this isn't possible...
WTF
Can someone please explain to me how Joe Scarborough became a "media superstar"?
Mika?
Please.
They get three hours on radio immediately after they get three hours on a nationally televised cable TV morning show.

And we wonder why other countries laugh at our dumb ass media.

Six hours of Joe Scarborough.
Six hours of Mika.
Six hours of Barnicle, "Chuckie T" and Willie Giest and I think I'm going to...
