Guerra Reveals Evidence (on Cheney's indictment)
Source: News Channel 5

Guerra unveils why his investigation led him to the Vice President

The charges against the Vice President stem from the Willacy State Jail in Raymondville and from the inmate, Gregorio De La Rosa, Jr., who was killed there by a fellow inmate in 2001. Guerra says that the elected officials let the jail get away with murder so that they can keep making money.

. . .

Guerra showed us the Vice President's financial disclosure from last year and it shows he owned shares in the Vanguard Group. Guerra estimates Cheney has $85 million invested in Vanguard and in turn, into the prison companies.

"The problem you have is he now has a direct interest," said Guerra. And according to Guerra, it's a direct interest in making sure the prison companies stay in business.

In Cheney's indictment, Guerra wrote that "no government officials made efforts to properly investigate the death of Gregorio De La Rosa, Jr.," he says that was due to the "money being made by...government officials."

Guerra claims Cheney put a stop to the De La Rosa investigation in 2006. He claims that Cheney is simply looking the other way while inmates across the country are dying in private prisons which is why Cheney is charged with engaging in organized criminal activity.

1. While cheney's ties to this crime are tenuous,
let's hope he gets nailed. After all, Capone was busted for tax evasion. cheney's bigger crimes are endless.

2. The day Cheney gets dragged into court ought to be a national holiday.
Whenever that happens. But I do believe Cheney's time will come. Of all the people in the Bush Administration, no one more richly deserves to be made to answer for his disgusting crimes.

15. He'll probably die first-he has been allowed to get away with
so much already, I can't imagine what else he would have to do before he will be held accountable.

5. If Guerra's claim that Cheney put a stop to the De La Rosa investigatin in 2006,
Cheney's ties could hardly be more direct and substantial, could they?

10. I'm not a lawyer
But I suspect that proving intent would be challenging. I believe one would have to prove the reason he suspended the investigation with corroborating evidence.

11. If his claim were backed by evidence, you'd think that would have been made available.
In short, the evidence we see so far is the evidence we assumed we'd see, which is pretty weak.

That Cheney intervened in some way is the crucial claim, and the only thing that distinguishes Cheney from the many hundreds of thousands of other investors in the Vanguard Group.

Without evidence, it's a just a claim, an allegation.

14. I believe the crux is that he had a very large vested interest and
squelched an investigation that would have effected his investment.

20. That was part of it, he got probation for that or something, but then
they found almost $30,000 in unreported income and agreed to let it slide if he resigned the Vice Presidency...

3. We don't have to continue paying for his "hospital" that follows him around, do we?
Just sayin'. I don't think we should have to be responsible for that perk once he leaves office. He's had awfully good care to keep him pumpin' this long.

4. Where did Cheney get $85 million to invest?
He was to get something like $5 million in deferred income from Halliburton when he left, but other than those few years there he has always been a public "servant." Has he been "investing" while he was VP? Whatever happened to "Blind Trusts?"

17. Blind trusts invest
Just because you are in government service doesn't mean your trust can't try to make money for you.

22. he gets back 375,000 a year in B's tax cuts. He made a killing on
his Halliburton stock options when Bush decided to let Halliburton steal from all of us.

7. Do pardons work on civil suits?
I don't think so.

Cheney may get a pardon for this, but he can be sued by the family.

23. This sounds like a stretch of epic prportions...
So all stockholders can be held civilly/criminally responsible for the company's actions? I don't think so.

Cheney is the devil - but it would be hard to say this was his responsibility even indirectly. The only court Cheney will ever be tried in is at the Hague. And that is a million to one shot.
