6. They do, but usually get shot down quickly with little "technicalities"
Like the fact that a 20-year-old can't get a permit to carry a concealed weapon legally in SC.

9. shooting at parades is BANNED
like heroin or meth. So lets just ban all guns, I am sure that will fix everything.

11. Better yet,
nobody be allowed to attend a parade WITHOUT a handgun - that way everybody can protect themselves.

12. Just enforce the shooting at parade ban, and all is good
you can ban drugs, that will fix that drug problem right up...oh shit, that didn't work?

13. Do you really think laws against shooting people have no effect at all?
Or do you simply believe that whenever activities continue, despite being criminal, those activities should be decriminalized?

14. sarcasam, obviously a half assed gun ban
will have no impact on a person who has decided to shoot into a crowd. Like drug war a war on guns is misplaced. Lazy people fail to address root cause for majority of crime.

17. So what's the root cause for this?
I'm not aware of a whole lot of gunfights breaking out at parades. I have a suggestion, but it has to do with the demilitarization of our society and a de-emphasis on using guns as the panacea prescribed by the High Church of Redemptive Violence. Which means fewer guns in fewer hands.

But let's not try that!

18. Lets work on the real issues, not bullshit
most shooting deaths are suicides. Then we have drug and gang related shootings. Domestic violence and then truly random stuff.

Quality mental health care, fix drug law and education systems. The others are more difficult. Nothing a ban will fix.

How do you propose enacting removing guns? My solution is working in Switzerland and finland. Just requires stuff any progressive society will do.

You know those parade shooting need a coordinated response. Ban parades! ban something now to make yourself feel good.

20. Actually, it's an example of what kind of people are most likely to commit violent crimes
People who are already criminals.

3. SC: Firearms are tax-free today
South Carolina becomes the first state in the country to hold a sales tax holiday only for guns, starting today. And Beaufort County gun shops said they're prepared for big sales -- not only because of the holiday but due to a rising fear that a Barack Obama administration will curtail gun rights.

Bob Oberst, owner of the Palmetto State Shooting Center in Okatie, said customers have made plans to come by his store today and Saturday to make tax-free purchases.

"Gun sales are up substantially, and I think primarily because of the recent election," Oberst said. "People are deathly afraid (Obama's) going to impose sanctions on our Second Amendment rights."

He said his store's gun sales are up 90 percent over last month. That compares to national retail figures for 2007, when sales jumped from October to November by 3.1 percent, according to the U.S. Census Bureau data.

Doug Pennington, spokesman for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, said Obama has been misrepresented as staunchly anti-gun. Pennington said a U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning Washington, D.C.'s gun ban makes it "constitutionally impossible" for an Obama administration to prevent Americans from buying guns.

21. Dupes = I must acquire several of these because the evil democrats..
are going to take them all away (even the ones that I am frantically buying)
WTF is the logic in that?
Then again never underestimate the paranoia of the gun consumer. Those who market to them certainly don't make that mistake.

22. I don't believe that's the case.
I think that by and large the people buying these guns know that if an AWB is passed, then these guns won't be manufactured in their current form. It's not that anyone is going to take them away. The last AWB didn't and it is unlikely that a new one will. These weapons would be much more difficult to acquire and increasingly expensive if a ban is passed, and that is the reason for the purchase.
