Obama Adviser Who Insulted Clinton Has Role in Transition
Edited on Sat Nov-29-08 02:25 AM by DeepModem Mom
Source: Washington Post

Samantha Power, the Harvard professor who was forced to resign from Barack Obama's presidential campaign last spring after calling Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton "a monster," is now advising the president-elect on transition matters relating to the State Department -- which Clinton is slated to head.

Power is listed on Obama's transition Web site as part of the team reviewing national security agencies. Her duties, according to the site, will be to "ensure that senior appointees have the information necessary to complete the confirmation process, lead their departments, and begin implementing signature policy initiatives immediately after they are sworn in."

In short, she is part of a team that is likely to work directly with Clinton, a potentially awkward situation for the two women. Obama is expected to officially announce Clinton as his choice for secretary of state after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Transition officials declined to comment. A spokesman for Clinton did not respond to an e-mail sent yesterday evening. Power has been on the list of review team officials since mid-November; the Associated Press first called attention to her presence on the list yesterday.

But people close to the transition suggested too much was made of Power's comment at the time, and said that she has made moves to bury the hatchet with Clinton and that the senator accepted those efforts....

18. I think it's a story worth discussing
Samantha Powers' people skills are in question when she calls a fellow Democrat "monster".

4. Sad when people no longer have proper names
To go through the rest of life known merely as "Adviser Who Insulted Clinton"...

- So professor Power was saying...

- Who?

- Samantha Power...

- Do I know her?...

- You know, "Adviser Who Insulted Clinton"

- Oh, her! I remember now! Has she insulted anybody else lately?...

23. I've yet to see a headline on this that actually names the woman
Every single one has this kind of bullshit headline. I'd really love to see just one or two that actually use the words "Samantha Power" somewhere in the headline. Hell, even just "Power." I'd be happy with half her name. Maybe not even her name, but some mention of something real she did. I hear she won some sort of prize and has something of an interest in humanitarian things; such trivia could work well in a story.

(That's a request to folks if you've seen one, BTW. The coverage of this is depressing me and I'd genuinely love to see some counterexamples out there someplace, especially from American news sources.)

5. you are starting to sound like faux news ...............
Good going, DU, give the GOPs another Joe teh plumber to pummel vox populi with for however long they it has legs. Samantha Power, hereafter to be known as
'Samantha the insulter', so Sean, O'liely, Rush, Steve Douchebag, et al, have something to keep them busy for the next week or so.

On Jan. 20, 2009, an event will take place such as we have not seen in many years. No, not the swearing-in, the person will be sworn in as the 44th president of the USA will take place and within hours, the USA, and the world, will become a better place.

President-elect Obama has already held more news conferences than the current brain-dead people's house occupier has in the last year and there was not a single captive, uniformed human, who by law has to keep his mouth shut and his opinions to himself or face court martial.

Hopefully, the tenor and intelligence of the questions will improve. I was struck by Mr. Obama's response to one idiot's question that implied a transition team member had not parroted every single workd uttered by Mr. Obama and the questioner suggested by the way he framed his question that Mr. Obama needed to prove the transition team member would not be in charge.

I loved Mr. Obama's response. Paraphrasing, Mr. Obama said, "yes, change will occur and that's my job". The inference was powerful and to the point. Mr. Obama will be 'the decider', not some hack whose name was given to him by some other hack who doesn't give a damn about all the American people, just the ones from whom something can be stolen.

12. I know this to be true.
However, hard to imagine someone could read here and hold their peace "for years" and then throw out shit stirring comments like the one I replied to.

Just sayin'.

that took place when Clinton basically stated McCain would be a better CIC than Obama.

9. Personally, I wouldn't qualify the "monster" remark as an insult.
Hillary behaved badly during the primaries. Barack has forgiven her, but I won't.

I guess I'm not as saintly as our Barack.

22. Why can't people figure out
that a lot of this is just politics? This story is over.

Both of these women are tough. They are concentrating on what needs to be done to clean up this mess.

Clinton will be a great SOS. Powers will be a great person to have on the transition team for State Department matters. They will work together and behave professionally, whether or not they opposed each other in the past.

Does the Washington Post think it is Fox News? That is where this story belongs.
