Saudi King Says Oil Should Be $75 a Barrel
Source: AP via Yahoo News

CAIRO, Egypt – Saudi Arabia's king says the price of oil should be $75 a barrel, much higher than it is now, but his oil minister indicated Saturday that no measures will likely be taken until OPEC meets again next month.

Saudi Oil Minister Ali Naimi said that the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries will "do what needs to be done" to shore up falling oil prices when the cartel meets Dec. 17 in Algeria.

Naimi did not entirely rule out the chance that the cartel would slash output at a hastily convened meeting of OPEC members in Cairo Saturday, but he said the bloc needs to wait until the Algeria meeting to assess the impact of earlier production cuts.

His comments came after Saudi King Abdullah told the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Seyassah in an interview published Saturday that oil should be priced at $75 a barrel.

but is much more in line with your last comments.

22. "Let them eat that f***ing oil." Do you REALLY want to do that???
The biggest problem with that philosophy is that you penalize not only the Saudi people--the ones who do not make policy. But you also punish the American farmers who need to sell product to earn a living.

You may want to rethink playing politics with food.

Just sayin...

6. What he means to say...
Saudi Arabia is dependent upon oil for its income. Its income has dropped. It needs the income from $75 a barrel oil.

No conspiracy at work here. Just plain old simple economics.

11. He's lucky that SA at least doesn't have a large population to support (just sheiks).
Iran, Venezuela, Mexico and Indonesia have very large populations whose governments depend on oil revenue to serve (or to placate/bribe, depending on your view of their governments) their population.

20. His vertical economy is sinking in the sand
he wasn't bitching much about high prices.
Let the market find a balance if he feels they can afford to pump less, which will bring in even less, until the new balance bounces it back.

SHould have squirreld away more when the price was pushing $150.
Hope he squirms more in the land of the profit

will give us all incentive to put that much more pressure on the Obama Admin to develop alternative fuel run cars and trucks much quicker. Its probably time to do that anyway but if the Saudi King keeps being greedy he might find himself, as JerseyGirl above said "living in a very small tract house in the middle of the desert, wondering what the hell happened to his wealth", while we drive our hemp oil/hydrogen cell or whatever fueled cars around.

i hope the price falls to $20 a barrel, maybe then the economy will recover without the need to chop down every mountain in usa and canada for "alternatives" like coal and tar sands

those obscene prices weren't just a theft of our economy but entailed the destruction of our environment as well

31. I initially misread that; thought "ABBA"...
Half past twelve
And I'm watching the late show in my flat all alone
How I hate to spend the evening on my own
Autumn winds
Blowing outside the window as I look around the room
And it makes me so depressed to see the gloom
There's not a soul out there
No one to hear my prayer

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day

Movie stars
Find the end of the rainbow, with a fortune to win
It's so different from the world I'm living in
Tired of TV
I open the window and I gaze into the night
But there's nothing there to see, no one in sight
There's not a soul out there
No one to hear my prayer

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day x2

There's not a soul out there
No one to hear my prayer

Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Won't somebody help me chase the shadows away
Gimme gimme gimme a man after midnight
Take me through the darkness to the break of the day
