Teens Nationwide Promote Abstinence (organized by Liberty Counsel)
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Melissa Millis feels bombarded by everyday messages of sexual promiscuity, whether it's Janet Jackson's bare breast during the Super Bowl or her classmates' casual sex talk.

So Millis, a high school senior in Michigan, and thousands of other students across the nation plan to wear white T-shirts to school Friday, the day before Valentine's Day, to publicly show their commitment to not having sex outside marriage. They're calling their effort the "Day of Purity," and they will distribute pro-abstinence pamphlets to their peers.

"The way sex is talked about, it's so casual, like it's an everyday thing, like going to McDonald's," said Millis, 17.

The grass-roots effort is supported by Christian groups nationwide and organized by Liberty Counsel, a conservative religious rights group based in Orlando. It comes as President Bush is pushing in his budget proposal to double federal funding for sexual abstinence programs.

3. By the wording ...
you'd think it was a spontaneous reaction to it all. But I get Falwell's weekly e-dibble and there was one back in early January about doing this - complete with a site to order those shirts.

This is no grass-roots movement.

4. here's info on "The Liberty Council"
http://www.infidels.org/activist/state/ArchivesFederal.shtml

12/00, The firm representing three Florida residents in their challenge to manual vote recounts in the presidential election (in the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals) is affiliated with Jerry Falwell. The firm, Liberty Counsel, merged with Jerry Falwell Ministries of Lynchburg earlier this year.. Falwell's involvement in the case infuriates some public interest groups. Falwell "claims to be a religious leader, but constantly engages in blatantly partisan political activities," said Steve Benen, a spokesman for Americans United for Separation of Church and State. Americans United complained to the Internal Revenue Service that Falwell violated the federal ban on partisan politicking by tax-exempt groups. Falwell sees nothing wrong with his affiliation with Liberty Counsel. "We do the same thing on the right that the ACLU does on the left," Falwell said. "It's all within the law and allowed." ("Group representing Fla. residents in appeal affiliated with Jerry Falwell" By Kia Shant'e Breaux, Associated Press Writer)

and here is an interesting page http://makeashorterlink.com/?M16725567

and here is the founder of Liberty Council

Mathew D. Staver, Esq.- CNP 1996, 1998; pastor; founder and president, Liberty Counsel 9, a religious civil liberties education and legal defense organization; president and founder, Staver & Associates, a law firm; president and founder, The Staver Group, a governmental consulting lobbying organization; president and founder, Staver Air, a charter flight service; contributor and editor, The Advocate, a legal publication dealing with insurance litigation; contributor and editor, The Liberator, a monthly newsletter devoted to religious liberty topics; producer of a radio program, Freedom's Call, a daily commentary on religious freedom and church related issues; author of numerous articles and pamphlets; authored "Quest for the Historical Jesus: An Inquiry into the Historicity of the Passion Predictions."; founded Campus Right to Life, as an outreach to college students

5. The goal: not to celebrate abstinence but to change h.s. culture to their
way. You start with "no more premarital sex" for yourself, then it's "You shouldn't be fooling around like that", and it continues with "You shouldn't be talking about sex in public."

Next thing you know it's a mandatory class promoting "No sex 'til you're married" instead of a needed sex ed class that informs students how to avoid STD's and pregnancy.

Besides, it's a pipe dream that the Christian program will convince more than a handful of kids full of hormones to come over to their side. I figure that the program will be a backdoor to proselytizing religion in the public schools.

6. but in their "ideal America", back in the 50's...
no one got pregnant
no one had premarital sex
no one was gay
no one committed adultery
no one got divorced

Don't you remember? It was on Leave it Beaver. And, if you dig deep and give to our organization, buy these shirts, pay us for more pamphlets - we can bring about this "utopia" again! Amen!

7. My own personal sampling...
I am director for a competitive youth performance group - all the kids are 16-22. Of the 16, 14 are girls. There is a group of girls (definitely NOT evangelical Christians) who have what they call the V Club - they are still virigns. Of the 14, 9 are members of the V Club. They are proud they have waited, again, not for any religious meaning, but because it makes them different.

I honestly hope this is an indication that the message is getting thru.

9. More People Prefer Single Life to Marriage
Traditional norms have pushed people to settle down and form families through marriage. Thoughts and values have drastically evolved with time, however, and many people prefer independence and wealth more than ever before; thus, they would rather stay single. Now that marriage is not a necessity, society's perception of staying single should be more liberal.

What is their response to people who never wish to marry?

10. Fifteen years from now...
Fifteen years from now, Melissa Mills will be a soccer mom, married to some boring rich white Republican, unhappy with her marriage, and banging the mailman. Ah, poetic justice...

12. And her husband will be banging call-girls.
And he'll be wealthy enough to do it often.

And her teen sons will be allowed to watch all the violence they want on TV, but if any nudity pops up, they better change that channel and how!

13. Actually, she will not have time to boff the mailman.
It's not that the thought of boffing the mailman won't occur to her of course. However, between running junior and juniorette to various pointless republican approved and very white suburban social activities, the mini mum virgin in her SUV won't have time to even wipe her bum, much less boff the mailman.
Serves her right, since she serves the right so well.

 When they start asking for Ah-nold movies to be boy-cotted I will consider them somewhat credible. Until then it's Puritanism gone mad.
