Legislature set to pass 24-hour wait on abortions
Napolitano may veto

After eight years of trying, backers of a 24-hour waiting period for women seeking an abortion won the state Senate's tentative approval Thursday, clearing the way for a showdown with Gov. Janet Napolitano.

The bill and a similar one in the House require that a woman read about the risks of having an abortion and of continuing with the pregnancy, among other information, before the procedure can be performed.

Supporters of the measures say they will give women the facts they need to make an informed decision. Critics say the bills' hidden agenda is to discourage women from going ahead with an abortion.

Because of Thursday's action, formal approval in both the House and Senate is now considered likely. However, most expect Napolitano, who favors abortion rights, to veto the bills.

1. may they all wake up pregnant tomorrow morning
and may they find their options severely limited.

Am soooo tired of the condescending attitudes of the anti-choice crowd. A 24 hour waiting period? Like anyone considering this procedure hasn't already given it some thought?

Implant an embryo on the spleen or liver of every male in the AZ house who voted for this one. I lived in AZ for many years and did not see much concern for the already-born kids from this bunch of hypocrites. School funding - too low. Child Protective Services - underfunded and overworked. #(*@&%)_@ weasels.

2. Yet, waiting periods for assault rifles
...are an attempt to take our freedom away?

Sheesh. Fucking hypocrites.

3. Let's see....
Anti-choice people want to redefine the time of viability to be closer to the first trimester. Now, they want a person to wait to have an abortion which increases the viability of a fetus.

I don't get it.

(Actually, I do)

4. This has a good chance of passing...
even over a Napolitano veto. There are some catholic, latino Democrats who are supporting this. Normally, Dems would have the votes to block a 2/3rds vote overriding a veto, but perhaps not this time.

I am not sure this law would hold up in court, though.
