House re-elects Nancy Pelosi as speaker
Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) — The woman who made history two years ago by becoming the first female speaker of the House has been re-elected to that post. House colleagues today chose Nancy Pelosi to continue as speaker.

Her fellow Democrats, with an expanded majority, elected her over Republican John Boehner (BAY'-nur) on the first day of the 111th Congress.

Pelosi received 255 votes, to Boehner's 174. The announcement was met with a standing ovation from fellow lawmakers.

Pelosi, a Californian who represents one of the nation's most liberal congressional districts, will lead a Democratic majority that has grown by more than 20 members since the end of the last Congress.

8. Not really. The Democratic caucus voted to keep her back on Nov. 20, 2008.

The Caucus also reelected House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), and House Whip James Clyburn (D-SD) and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).

9. Fools
I see there's still not a spine in the entire House. More of the same - letting Rethugs tell the majority what to do with Nancy and Harry begging them not to spank them. Pathetic.

11. Congress is the only place where you can fail miserably at your job and still keep that job.
And get a raise while you are at it.

16. It certainly does look like that. Whatever the REAL purpose of Watergate, it was
a raging success.

Even in victory, massive majorities and the Imperial Throne, the Democrats, sadly including Obama so far it seems, seem customarily bent on making sure the Cheneys, Roves and Kristols approve of their actions. The Democratic Party is one of 80-90% neutralized fearful toadies and Nancy Pelosi is their Queen. The modern Democratic Party, it seems to me, is mostly a Watergate Conspirator's Wet Dream, which despises it's consituency almost as much as the Bushie Masters (and if nothing changes, which is looking more likely every day, they WILL be the Masters still, though ostensibly out of power...just as they were during Clinton's 1st 2 years).

God, let me be wrong about this!

25. So that's it? No challengers?
100% of the Dem Representatives are happy with the job Pelosi did?

Yeah, yeah, I realize that a challenger would have split the vote and Boehner (BONE'-er)would have waltzed in, but..... where the Hell are the LEADERS in the House these days?
