Parties Will Not Hold N.C. Presidential Primary This Year
While Democrats will hold caucuses, Republicans told the board there was no need for them to hold any contest, as President Bush is unopposed from within his party. State Republican Party political director Bill Peaslee said holding a primary would be wasteful.

5. Looking forward to the Caucas.
Never have done the caucas thing, although in NC it won't be the chaos like Iowa seemed to be (at least to me).

Weeeeeeee . . . here we go!

9. Did you watch c-span the night of the Iowa caucuses?
They showed the goings on at two caucuses in two places in Iowa. It was like watching a reality show as the c-span camerapeople followed various caucus-goers around the building. At one of them, the folks in charge were having a really hard time counting the votes because people were spread out all over in different rooms in a house, I think (I thought to myself, Oh, God, please no recount jokes!)

6. We didn't vote til April - the candidate had already been decided - so why
bother and that was just to VOTE. In a caucus nobody will show up.

7. well
living in NC, I've was interested. I found out that there will be only one polling place in our area and that is in a hard to find location. We have come to the conclusion that the only way to get some people there is to supply the transportation. very frustrating

11. Actually here is a brief history
of the whole thing here in NC:

2000 - Democratic controlled state legislature draws new district maps
following census (admittedly, the maps were very gerrymandered)

- NC Republican party sues state challenging whether new dis-
tricts are constitutional per state constitution

- State Supreme Court rules maps unconstitutional and orders leg-
islature to re-draw them

- State legislature redraws maps a second time (still gerrymand-
ered, but less so, Democrats claim it is necessary to meet
Federal Voter Rights Act)

Now keep in mind everything in this process is so far in keeping with NC law and the state constitution. Here is where the Republicans illegally use the courts to override state law....

- NC Republican party goes to Johnston county to file a lawsuit
that will be tried before a partisan judge to rule the second
set of district maps unconstitutional. This partisan judge then
violates the state constitution by drawing his own set of maps
(which coincidently look an awful lot like the ones proposed by
the Republicans in the state legislature during the redist-
icting session). Isay he violated the constitution because in
NC the sole authority for drawing congressional districts is
given to the state legislature by the constitution. Not the
judiciary.

2002 - Partisan judge in Johnston county forces state to use his
illegally imposed maps for the 2002 mid-term elections
resulting in the NC Republican party taking a majority in the
state Senate, and reducing the Democratic majority in the state
house by several seats.

- One member of the NC Republican contingent pulls a Jim Jeffords
and switches parties resulting in a split Senate. Senate major-
ity leadership forced to be shared.

2003 - Republicans try to get judge from Johnston county to impose his
maps from previous mid-term elections for the rest of the
decade until the next census

- Judge wisely does not bring any further accusations of parti-
sanship and rules that his maps were one time only for the
sake of not having time in 2002 or state Supreme Court rules
his maps unconstitutional because they were not drawn by the
legislature ( can't remember on this one)

- Special session convened to re-draw distric maps. Maps adopted
pending US Department of Justice approval. They have to verify
that maps meet Federal Voter Rights Act.

- NC Republican party files suit to have maps ruled unconstitu-
tional again

- NC Democratic party files suit to have case tried in Wake
county by a three judge panel compiled of judges from all parts
of the state, not just eastern NC (who are mainly GOP lackeys)

- Supreme court appoints panel pending Justice Department ruling

2004 - Legislature sets primary date for April pending settlement of
all lawsuits

- NC Democratic party decides to hold caucuses in an attempt to
pertinent in the selection of the national Democratic nominee

And that's where we stand today. If any other Carolinians have anything to add or any corrections please feel free. I just wanted everyone to see how the GOP is attempting to accomplish in the courts what they cannot accomplish in the voting booth

It happened here in NC, in PA, in TX and in CA with stupid Governator
recall of Davis. They will not abide by the law and will use influence and insider connections to game the system from within to get what they want.

10. They Also Cancelled the Primaries Here in Colorado
Thanks to Republican mismanagement, we have severe money troubles in the Centennial State. So they cancelled the presidential primaries as a cost-cutting move. We'll be selecting our delegates as part of our caucuses and county/state conventions in April and May.
