Ok, being gay and being from San Francisco, this is going to sound like heresy, but here goes. How come the S.F. City Clerk's web site still lists the following criteria for a marriage certificate in this city (
http://www.ci.sf.ca.us/site/countyclerk_page.asp?id=5565):
You do not need to be a California resident to marry in California.
The same requirements apply whether you are a U.S. Citizen or a Tourist.
Only an unmarried male and an unmarried female may marry in California. Marriage by proxy is not allowed in California.
Seems pretty simple. Three simple rules. Too bad the city can't be bothered to update their own web site while they're cashing in at approximately $140 per couple for a license and a civil ceremony. At this rate, it would appear that the city, which has been suffering massive deficits like most other American cities, has pulled in a neat $350,000.00 in the last four days from some pretty gullible gay couples. Makes sense that the city doesn't want to spend the $20 to update their web site since they're expecting it to be correct after a judge finally rules anyway.
