Japan `has no balls,' Lee says
APPEASEMENT: The former president said the country's moves to placate Beijing go against traditional samurai values and highlight its weakness
By Chang Yun-ping
STAFF REPORTER
Wednesday, Feb 18, 2004,Page 1

Former president Lee Teng-hui (???) yesterday accused Japan of "having no balls," being weak and appeasing China amid its opposition to Taiwan's democratization and endeavors to gain recognition as an independent state.

Lee was speaking at an event to mark the release of the Chinese-language version of his book Bushido Kaidai (?????), a commentary on the traditional samurai spirit.

Lee said this essential part of Japanese culture has been lost, resulting in Japan's appeasing China at the expense of Taiwan's interests.

"The old Japanese values of the samurai have long since disappeared and the Japanese have become weak. Whatever China opposes, Japan dare not say something different," Lee said.

I would agree with President Lee. Japan and the US have become Get Rich Whores and lost moral principle.

1. Atomic Bomb
will do that to a country. Japanese will never go back to the ways that put them in situation that landed them a nuke.

2. Would that the same could be said for the droppers of the bomb!
If only the US would never go back to the ways that resulted in the mass murder of the civilians in two cities!

Perhaps it is time for us to learn from our former enemy. If the Japanese, after their vicious germ warfare and live vivisection, could renounce such and become a better society, isn't there hope for the US, too?

(Those unacquainted with Japan's WWII horrors might find this interview, reprinted in Harper's, illuminating: http://harpers.org/WeTookDownTwoToday.html)

3. What a moron. Someone needs to tell him that he "has no brains".
Sun Tzu would not approve of his dimwit natterings about
belligerent posturing as a political style. That said, I do
support an independent Taiwan, empires suck, and it should
be interesting to watch and see if he gets away with it.
