Another soldier who signed critical Iraq war column dies
Source: CNN

(CNN) — A third soldier who signed onto a newspaper column nearly a
year-and-a-half ago criticizing the war in Iraq has died, and his peers are
mourning their friend as an “outstanding soldier” with “a thirst for knowledge
and intellectural curiosity.”

Spc. Jeremy Roebuck, 23, of Splendora, Texas, died from injuries in a
January 28 automobile accident near Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

...

A relative confirmed that he was one of the people to sign an August 19,
2007 op-ed article in the New York Times that called the prospects of U.S.
success in Iraq “far-fetched” and said the progress being reported was being
offset by failures elsewhere.

Seven soldiers signed the column. In September 2007, two of the other
U.S. soldiers who signed the piece were killed in a truck accident outside
Baghdad. The pair were Staff Sgt. Yance (Prono: YANCEY) Gray and Sgt. Omar
Mora. All of the seven were members of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, based
at Fort Bragg, N.C.

2. Three out of seven dead in vehicle accidents?
Oh, yeah, Fuckface's thugs are still at it, killing off their critics.

The remaining four must be scared as hell right now.

7. Let me get this straight....

Someone has a team of hit men chasing after four guys who signed a newspaper column a year and a half ago, for no particular purpose than revenge?

Because these are apparently the only four people who criticized the Bush administration?

9. Have you been paying attention
these past 8 years? Or - we could say - back to the days when Kennedy & Martin Luther were killed? How about what they did to pay back Joe Wilson? What's 3 or 4 soldiers - it the message gets sent?

24. It's not really about four guys, it's about discouraging an organized message . . . .
that Americans might actually pay attention to ---

They've worked very hard over these decades to keep new leadership from arising in

every movement --

Hoover was way back trying to make sure that no black Messiah arose!

And they certainly worked very hard to suffocate the women's movement ---

some very dangerous ideas there--!!!

The masses can protest, sing songs --- and all of that is a threat --

but there is no threat like a Martin Luther King, Jr., JFK from inside the White House,

no less! -- Betty Friedan -- Science -- and the beloved Pope John XXIII giving the

brutal RCC a compassionate and humane face. Now gone with the right-wing coup in the

church.

Malcolm X, James Baldwin, Robert Kennedy -- wow, when they hit TV -- it was great!!!

They are not waiting until the last minute any longer to bring these leaders down.

10. Where have you been?
Check out the number of "war dissenters" who dared to criticize this abomination of an Iraq invasion that Fuckface performed. It's bizarre and disturbing and I was never one to buy into any kind of murder conspiracy theories.

Until, that is, a friend of mine -a good friend, a lifelong Republican who had been working at the White House since the Nixon administration, a member of Kissinger's team, a member of the NSC - who had retired, let some people know that he was gong to go public with his disapproval of the Iraq invasion and that he would urge Fuckface to withdraw from all military activity in the Middle East. My friend could not stress enough, in private conversation, that the US had absolutely no comprehension of the Middle Eastern mentality and cultures.

He was found dead in the loading area behind his coop building, the Watergate, and his funeral was over - he had no family - before his death was even announced. And that announcement was buried, like my friend, deep. You would not have found it inside the Washington Post - a bully pal of Fuckface in "going to war" - unless you went looking for it.

His death was called a suicide. He supposedly jumped to his death from the roof of the Watergate.

I knew him for more than thirty years. He disliked heights. He was happy and healthy, with a very good life. He was wealthy, he was a professor of physics at a local university, and he had a wide circle of friends who adored him. We all backed him in his decision to speak out against the war.

Next thing we knew, our phone messages to him weren't being returned, very unlike him. None of us knew he was dead until more than a week after he was murdered.

And I'll never believe anything except that Gus Weiss was murdered to stop him from what he was going to say.

There are others.

14. No, I'm not
I recall that name showing up in a website that covered Gus's death, I think.

No, not a word about his death anywhere, nor of another man who "jumped" off the roof of the State Department, not far from the Watergate, another old Republican veteran who was planning to go public with his disapproval of the Iraq invasion.

It's an ugly legacy of the past eight years. And I do not believe they're finished. In all my years in Washington, I've never been afraid of anyone or anything, but those people scare me.

27. That's why I left DC in 2003
I could see what was coming in the big ramp up to the "war on terra" and "seal up your houses with duct tape and plastic sheeting" bullshit. My office was 1 block from the White House and after 9-11 there were teenage Nat. Guard. outside on the streets with locked and loaded M-16's. That's when I knew I had to get away from Chimpy's Waffen SS. It took 18 more months to sell house, settle affairs, etc. but I was gone in 2003 and have never gone back. I hope DC will improve under Obama, but I will still never go back after what Darth and Chimp did to this country.

:(

I agree with you by the way you described what kind of person he was, it's unlikely that he committed suicide. I will keep him in mind and prayers that he is not forgotten.

19. Recall the bomber that had 6 nukes on it that flew from Minot ND
to the air base in Louisiana? All 7 of those crewmen 'died in accidents' with in 2 or 3 weeks after that flight. I don't think those nukes were 'accidently' loaded on to the hard points on the wings of that plane.
I can't remember all of the details..and what I had found is not available now.
One died in a single vehicle motorcycle accident near his home while on leave one died in a single car accident near the base, one died from a mysterious 'cold'. I cannot recall the rest, but they were all young between the ages of 22 and 35..
Wish I could remember or find the info again.

23. given that the accident that killed Mora and Gray
Killed five other soldiers that had nothing to do with that article, and occurred on a very dangerous stretch of road in iraq -- so dangerous that the truck they were in was driving without lights at night, I would say the odds weren't that long. As for Roebuck, if and when there is more information about the accident in which he died, then I'll have an opinion as to whether there is anything suspicious about it. Its sad, but young men, particularly young military men, die in automobile and motorcycle accidents at far too high a rate.
