(US Rep) Artur Davis launches run for governor today at noon in Birmingham
Source: Birmingham News

U.S. Rep. Artur Davis is ready to announce his plans for the 2010 governor's race. The three-term Democrat has appearances scheduled in Birmingham and Montgomery today where he is expected to announce he is running for governor. He will make stops between Saturday and Monday in Huntsville, Northport and Mobile.

Davis will become the first black person to make a serious bid for governor of Alabama. Last year he chaired Barack Obama's presidential campaign in the state. And, like Obama, Davis is a Harvard-educated lawyer who wants to reach across racial lines for votes.

Lt. Gov. Jim Folsom Jr. and Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks also are considering running for governor as Democrats.

3. NPR had a nice piece on him this morning.
He has a number of parallels to Obama, and has often disregarded older AA politicians who think he should aim lower to start with. One of them, Earl Hilliard, lost his seat to Davis in 2002.

5. HA !!!! I said it here, in ....August, I think.
But we need a good replacement for him in the House.
And he has an uphill climb beating the Rove machine that is our current state government.
