US soldier charged over al-Qaeda

Ryan Anderson faces two charges of attempting to supply intelligence to the enemy, and a possible death sentence if he is convicted.


It is thought he did not pass on any information, but may have tried to contact al-Qaeda through the internet.

Spc Anderson had written a number of letters to the press, in which he had been critical of the United States, a country he said was "no longer the one based upon the freedom I was taught to love".
