Scientists plan emergency summit on climate change
Source: by David Adam 2-9-09 Guardian

Scientists are to hold an emergency summit to warn the world's politicians that they are being too timid in their response to global warming.

I have no respect for organized bodies of knowledge that are full of politicized nutty professors that then rebuke politicians-otoh, those that love the truth (even when it's dire) have been stating the necessity to actually environmentally do something for decades. We have the tech and the expertise, but it may be too late for many regions.

4. Arctic sea ice is about equal to what it was in 2006-7
and the area during the summer of 2007 was the lowest on record.

However real global warming is, the politicians will be unable to do anything effective to slow it.

But that may be for the best. The current warm interglacial period is not typical for the last couple of million years, most of which had been occupied by glacial periods. Anthropogenic warming may be enough to keep the climate from tripping back into the more normal glacier-forming mode.

5. But... aren't the icecaps refreezing?

I swear, I actually heard that come of of someone's mouth recently -- after the standard "global warming is a myth" bullshit.

6. Actually, yes (in a sense)
The Perito Moreno glacier, in Argentina has shown minimal average growth. This was reported on late last week, but has come to gain more attention to dispel the global warming "myth". In fact it has grown, however globally climate change has affected well more than growth in isolated regions.

"Global warming" is a misnomer anyhow. Rapid climate change, and the extremes in weather phenomenon is more closely associated with anything that is currently developing; at an alarming rate.
