Suicide car bomb kills 4 U.S. soldiers in Iraq
Source: Reuters

MOSUL, Iraq, Feb 9 (Reuters) - A suicide bomber detonated a vehicle laden with explosives near a U.S. patrol in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on Monday, killing four U.S. soldiers and their interpreter, the U.S. military said.

The attack was the deadliest against U.S. forces in Iraq this year. Only four U.S. soldiers were killed in hostile action in all of January, the lowest monthly toll since the U.S.-led invasion that toppled Saddam Hussein in 2003.

U.S. and Iraqi forces say al Qaeda militants are making a stand in Mosul after being driven from other parts of the country. Violence there remains high, though it has fallen in most of the country to the lowest level since the war began.

U.S. and Iraqi officials had hoped that violence in Mosul might subside after provincial elections in January in which Sunni Arab parties won the largest share of the vote in surrounding Nineveh province.

4. When a car bomb kills an Iraqi, the casualty does not get counted. Is the same true when a car

5. it is counted... though what isn't counted is if a soldier is inured and
treated in Germany and dies... Also suicides of vets are not counted (24 last month of Iraq/Afghan war vets) :-(

7. Thank you. It's disguesting that someone critically wounded in Iraq
is not counted as an Iraqi casualty if they die while being treated in another country. IMO, suicides should be reported along with casualties, but not included in the overall casualty figure. I think it is almost more stunning if they are reported on their own.
