MSNBC host considering Florida Senate bid (Joe Scarborough)
Source: CNN

(CNN) — MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, a former Republican congressman, is leaving open the possibility of running for outgoing Florida Sen. Mel Martinez's seat in 2010.

The host of "Morning Joe" told the Sarasota Herald Tribune he's been fielding calls from several Florida Republicans urging him to run. "I haven't closed it off," he told the paper in an article published Monday. "I've been getting some calls from some fundraisers in Florida."

But Scarborough added he may have more influence now as a cable talk-show host than as Florida's junior senator.

Still, the race may be among the most high-profile and hard-fought Senate battles in 2010. Since former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush announced earlier this month he was not interested in running for the seat, state Republicans have been looking to field another high-profile candidate. Democrats are also scrambling to find a well-known candidate after Alex Sink, the state’s chief financial officer, said she would not run.

3. MSNBC has been trying to push back on this pretty hard
I think Scarborough just wanted to brag that people WANTED him to run. Sure, Joe. Then, maybe MSNBC reminded him that they didn't want to draw attention to those pesky dead intern rumors.

The Dem opponent will have hours of video of him on air ranting like a spoiled brat, all very suitable for choice TV ads.

7. I would hope MSNBC tapes his stump speeches - especially at churches and other RW venues
He might be all "Smilin' Joe" on the teevee, but when he is in his true Florida redneck element - he's as fascist a wingnut as they come.

Be afraid

12. Just pull up that comment he made about Chris Hedge's book "American Theocracy"
He came thisclose to having his head spin in circles on his neck. He was *outraged* that Hedge's dare call fundies theocrats. I'm sure they had to wipe the spit from his desktop after the piece.

29. I missed those!
What's the story?

You know when that show first started out she seemed MUCH more liberal than she is now...now she sounds as bad as Scarborough himself.

I actually wondered a couple of weeks ago what was up with her sudden shift to the right! Those two do seem a little familiar on the air if you ask me, but I thought I was imagining things.

14. How about "Morning Thom Hartmann"?????
I hate Scarborough. I love the format of that show though. It is ideal for those of us who are running around in the morning with kids, etc. You can come and go and still enjoy the show. Can you just imagine Thom Hartmann doing it every morning?

15. I would LOVE to see Mortning Shmo run for the Senate, and
he won't be able to host that morning show, which will make it better.

Also, he will lose in 2010 in a run for the Senate, and will be a loser all around.

Get him off MSNBC.........so none of us have to see him anymore.

People are desperate for jobs, so if he has any chance of staffing an office, it would be now...

40. She can wipe the floor with Joe (dead intern)
She's a wonderful choice to run against him.

Florida has lots of rednecks who won't want a woman, but it also has lots of Jewish aligned voters, and look at what happened in 2008 with Obama/McCain.
