U.S. Senate Begins Voting on Obama’s $787 Billion Stimulus Plan
Source: Bloomberg

Feb. 13 (Bloomberg) -- The Senate began voting on President Barack Obama’s $787 billion economic stimulus plan hours after the House, with no Republican votes, passed the package designed to help revive the U.S. economy.

Senate approval would send the plan to Obama for his signature, giving him the first major legislative victory of his administration. The plan, passed 246 to 183 by the House, would provide tax cuts for businesses and families and a half-trillion dollars in federal spending. Seven Democrats voted against the bill in the House.

“After all the debate, this legislation can be summed up in one word: Jobs,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a California Democrat, during today’s floor debate. “The American people need action and they need action now.”

The final Senate tally may be delayed until late tonight as one member, Sherrod Brown, returns to Washington from Ohio following the death of his mother.

Because of paperwork that needs to be done, the legislation will reach the president’s desk “no earlier than Monday,” White House press secretary Robert Gibbs said.

1. Hopefully 7 Democrats in the Senate will kill it....

There were 7 Democrats in the House who voted against it. Among other things, no one was given time to read it. Just pass it.

Didn't Madame Speaker promise to post the bill 48 hours prior to a vote?

Apparently she was in a hurry to get to Rome to schmooze with the Pope.

This bill does nothing for the average American except bankrupt them even further. Which is why it wasn't posted 48 hours prior to the vote and why members of the House weren't even given time to read it.

Hopefully 7 Democrats in the Senate will join the 7 Democrats in the House and kill it.

The people need help, Madame Speaker, not all the crooks on Wall Street.

Be a good little helper and Fall Into Line.

You need to suck it up and do what is necessary to support "The Football Team."

Clearly you do not understand yet that the newly minted leadership is infallible.

Reading and understanding Bills and Policy is not needed.

Just Blind Faith that it's good.

Don't you believe in Change?

3. The bill has been available for quite a while now. Yes things were
changed in the conference committee but the whole thing wasn't rewritten. The real question is why are you here spreading horseshit Republican talking points?

4. I had to quick see if our only representative...
A so called Blue Dog Democrat voted against it. I'm happy Herseth - Sandlin did vote for it so I emailed her on her site this...

Thank you for voting for the stimulus bill. Now... give up this Blue Dog garbage. It's fine to be fiscally responsible, like we all want you to be... but to be honest... you have past votes that are questionable, if not irresponsible siding against the average hard working South Dakotan and all Americans that earn a paycheck and asking our Representatives to represent us. You can not straddle the fence anymore, you have to pick a side. Yes.. I said pick a side because your a Democrat... and even though it's a conservative state... you have got to state and defend the Democratic ideals and if that costs you your seat as our only house representative, at least you stand for the right ideals and vision and garnered the respect which will be remembered for as long as you fight for whats right.

Sincerely; Jerry
