Obama returns home for first time as president

By PHILIP ELLIOTT – 2 hours ago

CHICAGO (AP) — Love and hoops topped the agenda for President Barack Obama this weekend. Obama, his wife, Michelle, and daughters arrived in Chicago on Friday, their first trip home since they moved into the White House nearly a month ago. Aides said the president planned a low-key, four-day holiday weekend, including a Valentine's Day dinner on Saturday with his wife and a likely basketball game with friends.

Earlier Friday, the House passed the $787 billion economic package that Obama had wanted to sign before he went on vacation. He was expected to watch on television at his Hyde Park home as the Senate cleared the bill for his signature.

Obama aides say the president plans a weekend largely out of sight, his first real break since his inauguration on Jan. 20. Last weekend, he flew by helicopter to the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains.

1. Unlike with Bush, it's actually *news* when Obama takes a vacation.
Tells you something (something good, that is) about our new president's work ethic.

6. Thanks!
I know they were looking for a helipad to use close to home so they didn't tie up traffic. Imagine that! The last time he flew into Midway I missed it :
Great pics too!

10. A little girl on the local news last night

The presidential motorcade lights flashing drove on nighttime Chicago streets to Obama's house. People were lined up for blocks with signs welcoming Obama home.

"Our president just drove down my street. I don't know what to say," said one overwhelmed grinning little girl.

It is kinda strange having a President live in the middle of a residential neighborhood. Wonder how they are going to fit in all the security much less all the motorcade cars.

11. Next month--Hawaii?
I think they ought to charter a ship to vacation in Hawaii. It's the only way they can get any privacy.
