White House Releases State by State Numbers; American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to Save or Create 3.5 Million Jobs

THE WHITE HOUSE

Office of the Press Secretary

________________________________________

For Immediate Release February 17, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The White House today released state-specific details on the local impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is a nationwide effort to create jobs, jumpstart growth and transform our economy to compete in the 21st century. The compromise package of $789 billion will create or save 3.5 million jobs over the next two years. Jobs created will be in a range of industries from clean energy to health care, with over 90% in the private sector.

Below are links to tables and fact sheets outlining the impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The estimates are derived from an analysis of the overall employment impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act conducted by Christina Romer, Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, and Jared Bernstein, Chief Economist for the Vice President, and detailed estimates of the working age population, employment, and industrial composition of each state.

meanwhile, back in Journalism with Integrity, let's hope someone covers this bill so the American people can get a good idea of what exactly it will do for their areas/families/etc.

15. Not seeing positive coverage . . .
Nor do I ... But if there is any adverse conditon created by any one segment of this package you better believe it will be on MSM 24/7!
As stated before, MSM does not cover news ... it propagates Republican idealism!

17. Funny. I'm still not hearing much about the republicans failed foreign
policies which put us in this situation in the first place. Namely, the two giant, sucking wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Guess the republican controlled media wants to keep all that swept neatly under the carpet in these difficult economic times...

8. Since the rethugs keep calling it a spending bill, time to press home Tax Cuts ARE spending
Cutting Taxes have the same effect as spending on the Federal budget. So while the GOP like to say "Tax and Spend" about Dems, that's a hell of a lot saner than their "Tax Cut and Spend". It's their unsound economic policy ("spend and spend" and the moronic "Supply Side" nonsense) that got us into this mess.

Bottom line, Tax Cuts are spending.

18. It Depends
on how you look at it. In reality the money doesn't belong to the government, it belongs to the people. I am afraid that as a party we are forgetting that. Somehow we have come to think that we can take as much as we want from the people without any negative effects. Even JFK gave tax cuts to help the people but sadly this is a different Democrat party now.

19. That hasn't been forgotten
this package was supposed to be our money being used to help us. Unlike, our money being used to prop up greedy bankers.

Not all tax cuts are created equal. Repig tax cuts do very little to stimulate the economy. The type of tax cuts that repigs hate are the ones that do the most good. Big shock.

I wonder how sincere you are when you say "we", Brgotn.

Then that graph looks about right to me.

14. I do have a question regarding the "Tax Relief".
If you look a the asterisk it states:

Tax Relief - includes $15 B for Infrastructure and Science, $61 B for Protecting the Vulnerable, $25 B for Education and Training and $22 B for Energy, so total funds are $126 B for Infrastructure and Science, $142 B for Protecting the Vulnerable, $78 B for Education and Training, and $65 B for Energy.

Those totals add up to 534 Billion, not the labeled 288 Billion. Also in which category does our $400 "stimulus" check come from?

23. The bubble charts adds up to 787...
But under the asterisk, the 288 becomes 534 billion with listed tax rebates. Just wondering why?

Thanks for the welcome :toast:

25. Go to recovery,gov...
click on the chart title "where is your money going". Now you should see the same "bubble chart" posted here. Notice that "tax relief" has an asterisk. Scroll down to the bottom of that "bubble chart", and you see the asterisk defined. It adds up to 534 billion...not 288.

6. Glad to be the 5th rec
And it will be up to "the people" to spread the good news via the internet and word-of-mouth to family, friends, and co-workers. You just have to do like Obama - go RIGHT to the people and ignore the propagandists. This whole package is against the agenda of the lunatic fringe, RW-biased M$M corporate shills.

7. This is exciting. Thanks for posting
It looks like I may not lose my job after all. Seriously.

Bailing out our states is a much better idea than bailing out the banks whose usurious practices bankrupted us all.

13. The health care plan is not much help
The tax credit to pay for COBRA shows this Admin and Congress are out of touch with average Americans again. When COBRA costs 83% of a family's unemployment check, a tax credit ain't gonna help. The Repukes have done a fine job watering this down.
