Roy Blunt is IN for U.S. Senate in 2010
Source: KC Star

Seven-term Congressman Roy Blunt of Missouri's 7th District will announce his intention to run for the U.S. Senate Thursday, GOP sources tell Prime Buzz.

Blunt, a 59-year-old Republican, will stop in four cities Thursday, beginning with St. Louis at 9:30 a.m.

Blunt's entry into the race has been long expected. The leading Democratic candidate is two-term Secretary of State Robin Carnahan.

Both are seeking to replace four-term Sen. Kit Bond who has announced that he won't seek another term.

2. I'm going to vote for Carnahan, of course..........
But Blunt is going to chew her up and spit her out if Ms. Carnahan tries to take the "high road".

12. I think you underestimate Robin.
She is popular in the rural areas, as well as the cities. I don't think Roy will go over well in the urban areas, and he is not well known outside of the 7th district. Robin has run state wide very successfully.

I just heard on local news here in Springfield that Roy is going to announce in St. Louis at Harris-Stowe University (a black college) GIVE ME A BREAK. Does he really think he is going to get the black vote?

I think Missouri may be tired of another Blunt, after his son's failed "baby Blunt" governorship. I will be so happy if 'ole Roy (my congresscritter):puke: gets stepped on big time. It couldn't happen to a nicer fella. :sarcasm:

18. Nah, I don't think so. Robin is pretty formidable and people in SWMO are getting
fed the hell up. Rolla is far enough south and her family roots are 'good ole country boy' enough that she'll do very well, and I think win.

19. "Blunt" is not exactly a popular brand name in MO right now.
I guess that could change, but unless Robin really screws up, I think she's got more going for her than dried-up old Roy Blunt does.

3. Roy Blunt Listed As One Of The Thirteen Most Corrupt In Congress
http://articles.latimes.com/2005/sep/25/nation/na-ethics25

A watchdog group, naming what it calls “the 13 most corrupt members of Congress,” is calling for ethics investigations of some of the most prominent leaders on Capitol Hill in a report to be released Monday.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington says in its report that the 13 members, among them Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) and House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (R-Mo.), might have violated a variety of congressional ethics rules.

The bipartisan list includes three Californians: Reps. Richard W. Pombo (R-Tracy), Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles) and Randy “Duke” Cunningham (R-Rancho Santa Fe).

Cunningham is one of two House members whose residences have been searched as part of separate federal criminal investigations. The other, Rep. William J. Jefferson (D-La.), also is named on the watchdog group’s list.

Three of those named on the list – Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Mont.) and Reps. Bob Ney (R-Ohio) and Tom Feeney (R-Fla.) – were cited for their dealings with onetime super-lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who is the subject of congressional and federal grand jury investigations. Abramoff was indicted last month on fraud charges relating to a Florida business deal. He has pleaded not guilty.

maybe he'll be in prison before the election of 2010

5. Is Robin any relation to the late Mel Carnahan?
Being a former Missourian, I am curious if she is related to Mel, the man who beat Ashcroft from the grave.

16. Go Robin!
Roy Blunt has two things going against him - his son just finished a very unpopular term as governor & the Carnahan family is well-respected state-wide. The late Governor Mel Carnahan, of course, beat incumbent Senator John Ashcroft in the 2000 US Senate race even though he was dead at the time - he had been killed (along with his son) shortly before the election in a campaign related plane crash. My joy at Ashcroft's defeat was short-lived, however, as GW Bush appointed the zealot as US Attorney General.

Target the Corrupt Republican Campaign (Missouri Focus)
http://corruptrepub.blogspot.com/2005/07/target-corrupt
CBS NEWS - June 11, 2003

.... Governor Matt Blunt has tried to prevent the U.S. Attorney's office from investigating his family's scandals by putting the wife of U.S. Attorney Todd Graves (U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri) on the Blunt Family payroll to the tune of a cool half million dollars a year, and he used taxpayer dollars to do it. This is described in the Kansas City Star. And here is an excerpt from a petition to Attorney General Gonzales demanding an investigation of this corruption:

It has recently been reported that United States Attorney Todd Graves and his family will personally benefit from no-bid state contracts valued at more than $3.6 million given by Missouri Governor Matt Blunt. This raises serious ethical and legal questions ..............

23. This is wonderful. CONTRIBUTE to her campaign and/or to the DNC. Missouri was
just about a dead heat in the Presidential election and the last new Senator Missouri elected, thanks in part to Michael Fox, is a Democrat (and an early Obama supporter). And Mel Carnahan was so popular. There is a real shot here, but the Pubs will throw a lot of money at this to avoid the dreaded 60 seat Democratic majority.

Early Money is Like Yeast.

Unlike throwing money at Tinklenberg during the last few days of his campaign against Bachmann, "Tinklenberging" candidate Carnahan early on would be money very well spent for Democrats!

24. Blunt is going to get his ass handed to him
Not only because he's running against Robin Carnahan, but also because his son's baggage, along with his own, will weigh his ass down and he'll get no traction outside of Ashcroft country.
