Kyrgyz MPs vote to shut US base
Edited on Thu Feb-19-09 08:05 AM by dipsydoodle
Source: BBC News

Kyrgyzstan's parliament has voted overwhelmingly in favour of closing a strategic US air base that supports US and Nato operations in Afghanistan.

The decision was passed by 78 votes to one. Once President Kurmanbek Bakiyev signs the bill, the US has 180 days to leave the base.

Mr Bakiyev announced the closure plan earlier this month in Moscow, where Russia pledged $2bn (£1.4bn) in aid.

Bishkek denies any link between the move to shut the base and Moscow's aid.

In 6 months time that will only leave a pair of overland supply routes : Bridge over Panj river and the Khyber Pass.
Uzbekistan will only allow transit of non military goods if any at all.

1. I like to support the USA & its projects but not at the expense
of imperialism and meddling in other country's affairs and getting the USA bogged down in unwinnable "wars", if war is indeed what it is. So, if it impedes imperialism, whether Soviet, British, or American, that's OK with this voter.

3. USA getting the boot? - seems the World is getting tired of the Empire . .
.
.
.

I'm sad to see that President Obama is sending MORE troops across the pond

should be bringing them home

South America has basically given the USA the finger -

Canada fought the USA over lumber tariffs to the tune of 4 - 5 Billion dollars

USA's belligerence around the globe is wearing thin

and is hurting itself in the process

GO HOME USA - take care of your own

there are poor and homeless that need you

Let the rest of the World take care of itself

4. Yes. It's time for a bright, shiny, new empire!
The old one has become tarnished and has lost its appeal, not to mention much of its ability to impose itself on others.

Empires are like that.
