Binyamin Netanyahu Targets Iran After He Is Appointed Prime Minister
Source: Times UK

Binyamin Netanyahu described Iran as the greatest threat that Israel has ever faced and failed to mention stalled talks with the Palestinians after he was asked to be the country's new Prime Minister today.

In a speech made outside the residence of President Shimon Peres, the Likud leader said that protecting Israel would be his greatest responsibility as leader, and condemned "formidable" challenges posed by the Islamic Republic.

However, he did not once mention the stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace process or a two-state solution throughout his address, omissions that will cause concern within an Obama administration determined to advance the peace process.

The Likud leader held a brief press conference alongside President Peres after he was appointed to form a coalition government, despite only finishing a close second in Israel's election.

"Iran is seeking to obtain a nuclear weapon and constitutes the gravest threat to our existence since the war of independence," Mr Netanyahu said.

21. I think Russia will warn Iran as soon as Isreal leaves their airspace.
Isreal may be surprised to see red stars painted on the aircraft flaming their asses.

24. Exactly - the US neocons who focked up our country were aka 'Bebe's Boys' back in the 90s.
He convinced many US lawmakers in the 90s to stand with his hardline position.

6. Not really stolen
It's partly the nature of any parliamentary system and partly the weirdness of Israeli election laws.

He wasn't running for prime minister, so he didn't and couldn't 'come in second'.

10. the Israeli election laws are really wacko
Because the right wing parities captured a majority in parliament he was asked to form the government. Kadiama would have not been able to form a majorty. Also Iran having a nuke starts a arms race in the middle east.

28. Let's hope not.
Warmongering idiot. I don't trust him an inch. But the same system that allowed him in, may cause stalemate and deny him power. Thanks for posting the article.

As someone who knows people from both Israel and Iran, the thought of war in the region just horrifies me.

... I remember several years ago (during one of his earlier stints in power), some site suggesting that maybe the Anti-Christ was Netanyahu.

Sure fits, as far as I can tell.

You can bet this is going to get ugly. I cannot believe in this and place when we have a glimmer of hope with Obama, this scum comes along.

Right now the retards on RaptureReady.com are having a collective orgy at the prospect of showing love to their fellow man in Iran. Fucking hypocrites the lot of them.

17. Israel launches covert war against Iran
Israel launches covert war against Iran

Israel has launched a covert war against Iran as an alternative to direct military strikes against Tehran's nuclear programme, US intelligence sources have revealed.

By Philip Sherwell in New York
Last Updated: 10:38PM GMT 16 Feb 2009

It is using hitmen, sabotage, front companies and double agents to disrupt the regime's illicit weapons project, the experts say.

The most dramatic element of the "decapitation" programme is the planned assassination of top figures involved in Iran's atomic operations.

Despite fears in Israel and the US that Iran is approaching the point of no return in its ability to build atom bomb, Israeli officials are aware of the change in mood in Washington since President Barack Obama took office.

<snip>

Reva Bhalla, a senior analyst with Stratfor, the US private intelligence company with strong government security connections, said the strategy was to take out key people.

"With co-operation from the United States, Israeli covert operations have focused both on eliminating key human assets involved in the nuclear programme and in sabotaging the Iranian nuclear supply chain," she said.

<snip>

"Israel has shown no hesitation in assassinating weapons scientists for hostile regimes in the past," said a European intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity. They did it with Iraq and they will do it with Iran when they can."

20. Your headline is wrong. Bibi was not "appointed" prime minister.
He was asked to try to form a government. While he will probably succeed in doing that, there is no guarantee, and it is at least possible that someone else might become PM instead.

22. Then, YOU fight them you chickenhawk bastard. NO US TROOPS for your "getting your war on" woody.
If you want to throw your balls around acting like the "big man," put YOUR country's money, troops, and citizenry at risk. Not a drop of US troop blood should be dropped for your warmongering, Netanyahu. FUCK YOU. I hated you when you were a hawkish pain-in-the-ass a decade ago.

27. I am sure that, as on ALL previous occasions,,,
if Israel goes to war, they WILL put their own money, troops and citizenry at risk. No drop of US blood has EVER been shed for Israel in 60 years of that country's existence; and I doubt that it will change even under Netanyahu.

Unfortunately, Israeli, Palestinian and Iranian blood may be shed because of fucking Netanyahu, and the stupid electoral system that gives him power, and that is more than bad enough, without blaming him for whatever America (or Britain if it comes to that) does or doesn't decide to do.

He served in the Israeli armed forces. He didn't urge his countrymen to go to war while avoiding the uniform himself.

25. The framing of reality in the minds of the average citizen:
- "peace process/two-state solution"

- "war of independence"

- "peace with our neighbours"

- "Iran's threats to Israel"

Lies that have become 'truth' through constant repetition.
