U.S. eases test rules for schools
http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/nation/7996583.htm

The Bush administration moved yesterday to defuse mounting criticism of its No Child Left Behind law by announcing a significant relaxation of testing requirements for students with limited knowledge of English. The new regulations will make it easier for schools to meet annual targets set by the Department of Education and aimed at bringing the performance of all U.S. students up to grade level in math and reading by 2014.

At a news conference, Education Secretary Rod Paige said he was planning more changes in coming weeks, including a new, more flexible interpretation of the requirement that all students be assigned a "fully qualified teacher."

In my heavily Republican suburb, where I ran for school board last year, the district's low test scores were blamed on Russian kids. They should have put the blame on this lemon of a law.

1. WTF !?!
"including a new, more flexible interpretation of the requirement that all students be assigned a "fully qualified teacher."

that's like a new, more flexible defintion of pregnant!

The dumbing down of the country continues...but taking tax dollars for faith based schools and voucher programs will solve the problems </sarcasm>

2. Now Kerry or Edwards can say
That they funded for a fully funded bill that looked like the original. It was not funded and it was made toothless.

4. Education Pres my ASS!
His law is making a tough job in the schools even tougher. He made it and we get to live with it. Love how you always find a minority group to blame on your wooooos. It's those pesky, Russian kids that can't speak English, it's all that fault and oh yeah...Clinton's too....Election day can't get here fast enough...

5. Next up
disabled kids. Then kids from single family homes, then kids from families who don't make over 45,000 a year. Then families who don't allow the kids a dog, then families that don't allow the kids to rent video games at blockbuster. After awhile all the left over kiddies will be able to pass the exam and everyone is happy because finally we have accountability. HA
