Bush Picks Mark McClellan to Head Medicare

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites) on Friday will nominate the head of the Food and Drug Administration (news - web sites), Mark McClellan, to run the agency that oversees Medicare and its new prescription drug program for seniors, administration officials said.

-snip-

McClellan has won rave reviews from the pharmaceutical industry for his efforts to streamline the FDA drug review process and help reduce costs for manufacturers. But consumer groups have criticized him as being too industry-friendly.

Before being appointed to the FDA, McClellan served on Bush's Council of Economic Advisers. His younger brother, Scott, is Bush's press secretary.

8. Oh, yeah! So HE'S the one.
I was starting to look in google to find out more about his dad, and hadn't found a word, yet.

Only got this far:
White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan
Scott McClellan is the White House press secretary; having promoted to replace Ari Fleischer as press secretary after he left the post on July 14, 2003. Previously he served as Deputy White House press secretary, Fleischer's assistant.

McClellan, 35, began working for President Bush, in 1999 as the deputy communications director, when Bush was the governor of Texas. He served as the traveling press secretary during the 2000 Presidential Campaign.

McClellan comes from a Texas political family. His mother, Carole Keeton Strayhorn, is the Texas state comptroller. and former mayor of Austin. McClellan is a three-time campaign manager for his mother.

His brother, Mark McClellan, the oldest of Scott's three brothers and now commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration and a former adviser to Bush.

His grandfather was the law school dean at the University of Texas

I wonder if they're AFRAID to mention his dad now.....

Thanks a ton for providing the info. on his ding-a-ling daddy.

10. Dad said that Johnson was a crook therefore......
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 11:42 AM by mac2
he probably killed Kennedy. Well..maybe he did who knows; like 9/11 the investigation was a farce. Evidence removed..strange killings, etc.

I always thought Jack Ruby looked pretty healthy for a dying man. Did they lie to get him to kill Oswald because he thought he was dying or was he really? All in Texas. Is Jack living in the Cayman's drinking Coke with Bin Laden?

McClellan also accused Johnson of being very corrupt and overly ambitious. We do know that Johnson wasn't the only crook in Texas polilitics. Fact is, the Republican people that Dad was connected to also practiced corrupt politics. Johnson learned after his first loss that he had to compete with them on their own level. That's how he won.

Amazing how these facts are missing in his book.

Guess, the family are all getting jobs because Dad wrote this book about Johnson. Democrats are corrupt..not Republicans. It's pay back time from Bush.

14. The father may be "whacko" but the idea that LBJ was at...
...least a participant in JFK's assassination is not nearly as far-fetched as you might think.

LBJ did too many things immediately following JFK's death that makes him a very suspicious character.

12. LOL he's got a temper
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 12:25 PM by Holly
I'm sure this is the same McClellan who came to Canada a few months ago and tried to strong arm the government to stop selling Canadian drugs to American's. He lost his temper at a press conference when the government wouldn't comply, and discredited every lie that he tried to spin. He was actually shouting. Must have been a change for him, the reporters actually asked questions, and didn't accept his talking points. He looked like a fool. Wonder if they aired any of this on the US networks. What am I thinking, of course they didn't.

13. I'd like to have seen that!
Scottie was getting hot about the pay sheets and dental records too. He kept talking in circles. They said, hey you haven't answered the question.

Canadians harboring terrorists and selling bad drugs to Americans. Did you think, he'd gone mad? I do.

Thank you for standing up to him Canadians. He doesn't represent us Democrats and probably most Americans.
