Kerry gets Secret Service protection
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/news/archive/2004/02/20/politics0939EST0523.DTL

The Secret Service began protecting Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry on Friday and may soon offer its services to Kerry rival John Edwards.

"It's a decision the candidate has to request," said Secret Service spokesman Tom Mazur.

Federal law allows candidates to seek protection if they meet a series of standards, including public prominence as measured by polls and fund raising.

"A threat could be part of that equation," Mazur said, declining to reveal whether Kerry was the subject of specific threats.

hmmmm....

That Reuters' photo that was on Drudge's front page yesterday, perhaps?

5. I hope Edwards gets it soon too
Both men are too valuable to the democratic party to even think about not protecting them. I'm sure the threats have already begun.

6. they deserve protection
I went to Kerry's event in warren, MI and when I walked up to the ropes to walk in to the "secure" area where Kerry was speaking I asked the officer standing there if it was okay for me to walk in. I say this because the goofball was staring into space. In other words security was rather bad.

Let's only hope the the people assigned can be trusted and are not going to spy for Bush and Rove, I would let nothing past them.
