Rove to local GOP: 'You have a pretty easy message'
Edited on Tue Feb-24-09 12:24 PM by kpete
Source: Daily Herald

Karl Rove, the political brain trust of former President George W. Bush, told Northwest suburban Republicans they can win back the state if they don't rip the party apart in the primaries early next year.

"The people are looking closely at the quality of candidates you put forward," Rove said. "You better not claw yourselves up and bloody yourselves up and cut yourselves up in a primary."

That is crucial, Rove mentored at a Schaumburg fundraiser, because the time is ripe for a GOP comeback in the statewide 2010 elections, or a potential special Senate election, given the arrest of Democratic former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and scandal surrounding Democratic Sen. Roland Burris.

"It strikes me that you have a pretty easy message," Rove told the several hundred attendees at the Schaumburg Marriott. "If you want change from the way things are then you ought to elect yourself a Republican governor."

3. assume for a moment they made a big comeback
Now think of 1937, the year FDR tried for a balanced budget.

Now imagine he'd slashed the new deal and cut taxes instead.

Yeah-- much like that.

4. I don't know why their party would touch him with a ten foot pole. He lost it all for the GOP.
He was a big part of them losing the entire government, not to mention many governor's seats and state congresses.

And he failed to elect Bush in 2000 and likely 2004.

They should be talking to the SCOTUS five, Katherine Harris, and Ralph Nader if they want advice on how to elect Republicans.

5. LOL yeah. He has been SO spot on the last 2 elections.
And if they don't arrest him for defying a Congressional subpoena yet again . . . they are pitiful.

6. That seems to be the very definition of contempt.
Arresting Rove is the only possible way to get him to talk. So, what are they waiting for?

16. yeah, cuz the voters here in illinois are really likely to forget that it was
what seems like an endless stream of republican governors that f'ed the state up. blaggo was doing what the ryan holdovers pressed him to do. the wire taps were started because someone blew the whistle on a guy that ryan appointed to the hospital facilities revue board.

don't make the mistake of thinking blaggo got nailed for corruption. he didn't. he is a long was from the most corrupt bastard in the state. he was impeached because he is bat shit crazy. people got tired of trying to work with a crack pot.

8. DAMMIT! This bastid needs to be in a cell somewhere. NOW!
He's committed contempt several times now. He's a traitor. And I'd like to know how he got so fucking rich. There's something that doesn't ring right there either.

Obama needs to get his ass going. Or else lose a BIG chunk of his supporters.

10. Oh no, I'm NOT dreaming. I agree with what you said.
Remember me? I'm the fool that was banned for a few months because I said this guy ain't the walking-on-water messiah that people around here thought/think he was/is.

He was NOT my first choice but I DID actively work for his campaign here in Omaha.

19. I stayed our of the pre-election Food Fights, but it sounds like we are on the same page.
Quite frankly, I hope we are BOTH dreaming, and that Obama is going to do more to restore the System of Checks and Balances beside cosmetic nibbles which the Bushie will fully reverse in their first week of Stolen Power.

I also worked hard for his campaign in SE PA.

51 Criminal Bus Attorneys kept ON??? Missing Bushie Criminal e-mail stay missing, with Obama's blessing???

If I had any illusions, they were slapped out of me.

11. Who's he kidding?
Gov. Rod Blagojevich? Does he think people of IL. forgot Ryan already? A Republican governor in prison is easy to remember, so how does that mean that R's will be better than D's?

12. Even Dems thought that as they were the first out of the gate calling for a special
election until they realized they might lose to a republican.

21. to replace Senator Burris if need be, she advocated for a special election before Burris was
appointed as well, so she's been consistent about it. She didn't drop her special election support as the OP suggested.

22. Well, they can always fall back on that old "don't call me a Republican" gambit.
 I don't know how many signs I saw last election cycle that had no party on it, or said something like 'Conservative' or 'GOP' or something.

They don't seem to get it. It ain't the brand we rejected, it's the product.
