UK blocks publications of Iraq war discussions
1 hour ago
LONDON (AP) — The British government says it won't publish minutes of top-level government meetings held prior to the Iraq war.

Justice Secretary Jack Straw says the government will block publication of minutes of Cabinet discussions held days before the Britain joined the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

The documents could provide insight into one of the most controversial decisions by former Prime Minister Tony Blair. His participation in the war gravely diminished his popularity.

Such records are normally kept secret for at least 30 years. But Britain's Information Tribunal had ruled the public interest in them outweighed confidentiality concerns. However Straw said Tuesday that release of the minutes could damage the way Britain's government works.

1. "could damage the way Britain's government works"
I'm sure it would. As a matter of fact I'll bet it could damage the way the US government works.

7. Of course it could.
Because if the people were to reach full awareness of what their leaders have done, and how staged and engineered this Fake War is, said Government might be damaged fatally.

As in falling, and a new one being put in it's place.

I can see it would damage the way Britain's government works when it becomes undenaibly evident that their former PM, Tony Bliar, and his ministers were a bunch of lying, war mongering, murdering, war criminal suckholes to Bush and and the neocons.

5. "Allowing publication to go ahead would cause "serious damage to Cabinet government"
Straw 'will veto' Iraq minutes

1 hour 50 mins ago
Press Assoc.

The Government will exercise veto powers to block publication of key Cabinet minutes under freedom of information laws, it has been announced.

SNIP

Mr Straw said he had signed a certificate under section 53 of the FOI Act, "the effect of which is that these Cabinet minutes will not now be disclosed".

Allowing publication to go ahead would cause "serious damage to Cabinet government, an essential principle of British democracy".

Mr Straw told the Commons he had consulted with the rest of the Cabinet before taking issuing the veto, and the decision had not been taken "lightly".

6. Letting the public know you lied to them and caused their nation to act illegally usually does
cause problems. Wounds of those who fought, lost loved ones, etc. are raw now. In thirty years, many alive now will be dead or out of energy. Safer for government to wait.

10. This ones too important not to kick back to the top.
Hell if releasing these documents could actually bring down the UK government then they must be able to shine a hell of a lot of light on the crimes of Bush and Cheney and the Neocons as well.:kick: :kick:
