(AP) Source: (Chris) Matthews says 'Oh God' before Jindal spoke
Source: AP

NEW YORK (AP) — MSNBC's Chris Matthews quietly uttered "Oh God" as Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal prepared to give the Republican Party response to President Barack Obama's speech to Congress.

An NBC executive, who requested anonymity because the network is still looking into the matter, named Matthews as the one who made the live mike slip — it was so quiet most listeners wouldn't be able to identify the speaker.

The Huffington Post posted a link to the comment and asked viewers to guess Wednesday who had made it: 32 percent had guessed Matthews, 35 percent said it was co-anchor Keith Olbermann, 15 percent said it was an MSNBC camera operator and 18 percent thought it was a producer.

1. I really don't get how this is news for the AP
"looking into the matter"? MSNBC obviously made the choice to put opinion commentators instead of "anchors" in this slot, how is what he said so bad? He's said some offensive things in the past, but I don't get the deal with why people think the "oh god" thing is so bad.

5. Olbermann's a professional
I'm sort of surprised anybody thought it was him. He would have made damn sure his mike was OFF before he said anything. Can't say the same for tweety.

8. Oh please . Olberman is even more of a blow hard than Tweety.
Tweety at least can sometimes admit when he is wrong. Olberman would never admit if he left the mike on!

Olberman could fart and posters here would have an orgasm, ecstatically proclaiming his wise and intuitive comment, telling it like it is.

17. Olbermann may have his faults but NOBODY is a bigger blowhard than tweety.
I never heard KO drool over the sock stuffed in bush's pants or rave about the boy king's "sunny nobility".

Nor did I hear him opine that Obama's speech sent a tingle up his leg.

Matthews lets his emotions get in the way of his objectivity.

7. I'm surprised
by how often MSNBC is willing to throw their anchors/news people under the bus. Some times the things that they have gotten criticized for are justified (though, how come Chris Matthews gets the wrath that Pat Buchanan doesn't? He says racist shit all the time on there) and MSNBC takes action or has a response, but other times, it's for stupid stuff that is just fodder for right wing sources to try and push MSNBC/NBC to the right (Matthews gets crushes on Repubs too and is quite conservative in some areas, seems to agree with some Repubs on the stimulus, etc), and MSNBC high ups just oblidge with the faux hysteria.

Is MSNBC going to allow Faux etc. to attack Tweety's right to invoke a blessing on the air???? No wonder this story has risen to such importance amongst all the other petty nuisances the AP could cover: Tweety's Constitutional rights are being violated!

Did you see how awkward his entrance was? Tweety knew a train-wreck was coming. He felt sorry for a guy whose national political ambition was about to crash in front of his eyes.

The opposition websites are screaming bloody murder over that (like we really care anyways, but still).

We need to be vigilant. MSNBC has been known to bow to RW pressure before, (remember the GOP convention when they were pressured to replace KO and Matthews as anchors?)

His official "reaction". Again, not even sure what needs to be explained here. One could argue that it was unprofessional and show that he wasn't willing to give Jindal a "chance", but as I said, he's an OPINION commentator. He had said previously that he was not impressed with Jindal, and stagecraft is something that Chris talks about a lot. Anyone who watches his show knows that there personal reaction he has to certain people has little to do with their political affiliation. He's going to "address it" tonight. He has said some offensive things in the past, but I don't get what the big deal with this is.

Matthews: 'I was taken aback' by Jindal entrance

After some confusion over who muttered "Oh God" last night on MSNBC, I reported this morning that it was Chris Matthews not Keith Olbermann.

And Matthews now plans to address the hot mic moment later on "Hardball," of which I've been provided a statement.

"I was taken aback by that peculiar stagecraft, the walking from somewhere in the back of this narrow hall, this winding staircase looming there, the odd anti-bellum look of the scene," Matthews said. "Was this some mimicking of a president walking along the state floor to the East Room?

Also, Jindal was invited on "Hardball" tonight but declined.

********UNQUOTE********

He is a juvenile with mysogynist, racial, stereotypical thinking. He steps into it every time on whatever front of his parochialism. He is the schoolyard bully, a physical coward when confronted--look how he acts with Jon STEWART and Ellen DEGENERES. He shuns people like KUCHINICH who look "different" and exhibits his junior high fear of not being with the "popular" clique and catching something from the geekier looking people. That's Tweety.

28. Isn't that appropriate
when you see a man walking toward the gallows, or a sheep being led to slaughter?

I don't see the "news" here.

After Obama's tremendous and inspiring speech, what other phrase do you utter but "Oh God" when someone walks up and tries to "respond".

Actually, considering how it all turned out, I think "Oh Shit!" would have been even more appropriate.

29. SO WHAT. Did any speculator witness actually what he was commenting on? Maybe
he spilled his coffee on himself or lost some of the speech pages. When you can't actually see what is going on it becomes too easy to judge, blame or come to conclusions.I have worked with cameras, sound and tv stuffs and it is easy to misinterpret when you don't see the whole situation.
