India names Pakistani colonel in connection with Mumbai terror attacks
Source: The Guardian

Indian police have named a Pakistani colonel who they say was connected to November's Mumbai terror attacks which left 164 people dead.

An 11,509-page charge sheet filed by the Mumbai police yesterday named the officer as Colonel Sadatullah, the highest-ranked Pakistani to be implicated in the three-day siege of two luxury hotels and other sites that strained tensions between the two neighbours.

Sadatullah is a colonel in the special communications organisation (SCO), a telecommunications agency of the Pakistani government run by officers from the army's signal corps. The SCO operates only in the Pakistani side of the divided province of Kashmir and Pakistan's restive northern region.

However, payments to the account were made by wire transfer through MoneyGram and Western Union Money Transfer by two Pakistani nationals, Javed Iqbal and Mohammed Ishtiaq. The two used the email address ID kharak_telco@yahoo.com to communicate with CallPhonex. Indian investigators say there was contact between this email address and Sadatullah's official email, pmit@sco.gov.pk, which police say is the email service for all SCO officers.

This could get ugly, diplomatically.

1. what's new ...
this is terrible news ... Pak will be heartbroken when they hear the news that their military personnel indulge in terrorism. To recover from this grief, they would expect no less than $2 bn military aid from US. And please add a squadron of F-18s for free, thank you very much.

On a serious note - all US citizens who aren't too concerned by this news, remember that 4 AMERICANS were killed in the attacks. The terrorists were looking & asking for foreign victims. After they massacred 58 in the railway terminus, they went to the upscale hotels looking for foreign victims - Americans, Britishers, Israelis. And what do you think of your govt that gives military & non-military aid to a country whose military train terrorists to target Americans?

5. undoubtedly ..
undoubtedly ...

Pakistan ... they received money from CIA in the 1980s for the Afghanistan Proxy War. In the 1990s, they encouraged TALIBAN to take over Afghanistan admin. Post-9/11., they have received closed to $10 bn over the last 7 years to "fight terrorism". If terrorism stops tomorrow, will American pay them anything?

2. Pakistani Army colonel 'was involved' in Mumbai terror attacks
Source: The Times (UK)

Police have accused an officer in the Pakistan Army of being involved in the Mumbai terrorist attacks.

Rhys Blakely in Mumbai

The name of Colonel R Sadatullah appears in an 11,200-page document that lists the charges against Azam Amir Kasab, who police claim is the sole surving gunman of the November attacks in which 170 people died.

Police believe that Colonel Sadatullah is a serving officer in the Pakistan Army’s Special Communications Organisation, an offshoot of the force’s signals corps. It is alleged that an official government e-mail account linked to Colonel was used to send at least one message related to the attacks.

His naming represents the most specific allegation of Pakistan's involvement in the attacks and will put more strain on India's relationship with its nuclear-armed neighbour. Rakesh Maria, the head of the Mumbai police crime branch, who is heading the investigation, confirmed to The Times that the officer is wanted for questioning.

Police also suspect the involvement of another army officer, who is referred to only as the “major general” in telephone calls between the ten Islamist gunmen who carried out the attacks and their alleged handlers in Pakistan, Mr Mariah added.
