Powell Says N. Korean Nuclear Work Invites `Calamity' (Update2)
Feb. 20 (Bloomberg) -- Secretary of State Colin Powell told a Princeton University audience that the U.S. will warn North Korea in talks next week that its failure to abandon its nuclear weapons program would be a ``sure way to calamity.''

Powell said the U.S. won't tolerate proliferation of nuclear weapons and will use ``a tough-minded diplomacy'' to persuade North Korea and other governments to give up such efforts.

``Nuclear weapons won't make North Korea more secure, proliferation of nuclear weapons won't make North Korea more prosperous,'' Powell said in the keynote address of a conference to mark the 100th birthday of former ambassador George Kennan, a shaper of U.S. containment policy toward the Soviet Union.

1. There used to be a tacit agreement
That nuclear armed powers would not invade non-nuclear powers, at least not without some effort to give a good reason. Yes, I know it was frequently violated (Vietnam-US, Afghanistan-USSR, etc.) but there was some nod toward this notion anyway, in order to forestall proliferation. But it rings hollow now, and you can't really blame countries for wanting to go nuclear. Another way Bush has made the world more insecure.

3. I'm betting Bush is behind these guys getting nukes. He wants to win
the election so bad, he probably sold the nukes to North Korea and has a backroom deal with the Korean leader to invade the country in September. Then everyone will line up behind the president. Kim Il will probably be living on a CIA owned island drink margarita for the rest of his life.

2. I think Powel's whoredom is a "calamity" as well.
