In the New Economics: Fast-Food Factories?

No its not "The Onion", but it sure reads like it is.

In the New Economics: Fast-Food Factories?
By DAVID CAY JOHNSTON

Published: February 20, 2004

Is cooking a hamburger patty and inserting the meat, lettuce and ketchup inside a bun a manufacturing job, like assembling automobiles?

That question is posed in the new Economic Report of the President, a thick annual compendium of observations and statistics on the health of the United States economy.

The latest edition, sent to Congress last week, questions whether fast-food restaurants should continue to be counted as part of the service sector or should be reclassified as manufacturers. No answers were offered.

***PASS THIS ON TO ANY AND ALL FRIENDS/RELATIVES***
This needs to be on the Daily Show, The Tonight Show, and
Letterman. Nothing would be better than to see bush* more
ridiculed than he already is.

Updated to real headline.

3. They Can Claim by Creating Jobs for Burger Flippers that they
are creating manufacturing jobs and therefore skewer the statistics.

It's an incredibly cynical move so they can make the argument that they are NOT destroying the manufacturing sector.

7. bush* will tout all the new manufacturing jobs created
just by reclassifying.

This is a "Daily Show" headline. Thats the real implication.

18. Indeed that is the Orwellian or should I say Enronian implication.
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 03:25 PM by benfranklin1776
The reclassifying is pure cooking of the books. Book losses as profits. Things look just dandy when you define down as up! Creating paper growth out of illusion and smoke and mirrors. It is just like this maladminstration reclassifying the two million plus who have lost their jobs as self employed and touting the number of newly created "self employed" people they are responsible for as job creation.

8. Bush* can say that manufacturing jobs are up and, unlike the Reagan...
ketchup-as-vegetable incident, the media won't alert the public that that means there are more fast food jobs.

12. Under Bush we have growth in "manufacturing sector" jobs?
sigh

I know it is just for media - so no one says he "lies"

but it is sad that he could do this knowing the media will say nothing, as long as the NYT has explained the change.

22. Yeah, I first entered it after the First Imperial Debate
Not to mention the night I saw my first Poll Freeping (I think this was peferformed by a corrupt excite.com Dittohead employee, since the numbers were so round).

I wasn't as savvy as I am now, otherwise I would link to the screen capture.

But this is what it was at 12:03am (3 minutes after the day's new excite.com poll was up.

Do you have a favorable opinion of Al Gore?

Yes 3 0%
No 40000 99%

Oh yes, the Matrix is all around Imperial Amerika, isn't it?

11. heh. not very transparent, huh bushco? "fudging numbers r us."
when they aren't "bending" inflexible scientific facts in their favor, they're fudging the numbers, or outright lying about them and then retracting it later when they're caught. lies, hypocrisy, manipulation, cronyism, war-mongering... this guy's running our country straight into the toilet.

16. What's next? Calling nursing home work as assembly line?
Does this mean that the employers can start paying their employee for 'piecework' instead of a hourly rate? Bush has RAN this country into the toilet and now he's begun to flush it!

20. If Republicans "reclassify" Bush as an articulate intellectual,
does that mean it is true?

Does this mean that fast food workers will now have to be paid the going rate for manufacturing jobs?

23. Then what am *I*????
I used to be a "technical worker". Before that, I was a "Broadcast Engineer".
I take busted video equipment, some of it costing $40,000-plus, find and remove the dead parts, and install new parts.

Am I a "repairman" now, or a "Re-manufacturer"?

Operating a Coke fountain is factory work...Man, how stupid do they think we are?

Oh, I forgot....Bill Hung got a 25-kilobuck RECORDING CONTRACT for "She Bang"...Yeah, we're pretty stupid.
