China scorns U.S. rights record in tit-for-tat exchange

BEIJING (Reuters) - China maintained its scornful response to human rights criticism from the United States, throwing back assertions that Washington was culpable for racism, crowded prisons and torture.

The U.S. State Department sharply criticised China on Wednesday in its annual report on human rights across the world, saying its record "remained poor and worsened in some areas" in 2008.

In the now well-scripted tit-for-tat exchange over the issue, Beijing dismissed the criticisms as "meddling," but also late Thursday issued its tenth annual assessment of human rights in the United States.

That record was not good, said the report issued by the State Council Information Office, the government arm in charge of news and propaganda.

"The U.S. practice of throwing stones at others while living in a glass house is a testimony to the double standards and hypocrisy of the United States in dealing with its human rights issues," said the Chinese report.

I'd like to thank China for mentioning our crowded prisons full of non-violent drug offenders that should be let out.

1. I think the World notices that China is not involved in massive slaughter across the globe
.
.
.

USA's words of "collateral damage" for the civilians they kill in their wars hasn't gone unnoticed

heck - the USA hardly even recognizes their own soldiers that come home dead or wounded

the World notices

ask a USA vet

I know

I lived in CA for over a year

not too many contented veterans with the way their government treats them

USA should button their mouth until they fix their own nation's human rights thing . .

Just my Canuk opinion/observation

China denounces US 'rights abuse'

China has responded in detail to a US report published this week criticising China for alleged rights abuses.

Beijing released its own report on the US, saying crime is a threat to many Americans and racial discrimination prevails in social life across the US.

When US officials first published their report on China, Beijing told them to mind their own business.

The BBC's James Reynolds, in Beijing, says the reports are a standard yearly exchange with little practical impact.

The 9,000-word Chinese report depicts a bleak picture of the US, saying violent crime is a widespread threat to people's lives, property and personal security.

The American people's economic, social and cultural rights are not properly protected, say the Chinese, and many young Americans "have personality disorders".

6. Beijing has a point.
And this chart is worth looking it. It shows the number of rightwing death squad murders in Colombia (like a skyscaper on the chart), next to the extrajudicial/political murders elsewhere in South America, including all of the leftist countries that the Bushwhacks hate (Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Argentina)--virtually flat-lined, as to such murders. And guess who the U.S. is allied with, and funds to the tune of $6 BILLION in military aid (going to a government and military with very close ties, very high up, to the death squads and also to drug trafficking)?

Chart is second on BoRev's front page today: http://www.borev.net/

And BoRev comments on this State Dept. report (Condi's last) as article one on their front page today.

10. Kick !!
Glad China is speaking openly about the discrepancies between the USA's dream of itself and the harsh realities. The Bush administration added a lot more to the pile of hypocrisy.

China's human rights violations are appalling but the USA has a long way to go before there is liberty and justice for all.

We don't even have national health insurance yet.
