Chicago Man Arrested for Allegedly Targeting Obama With HIV-Infected Blood
Source: Fox News

A man from President Obama's hometown of Chicago has been arrested for allegedly sending Obama and his staff envelopes containing HIV-infected blood, in the hopes of killing or harming them.

It's only the second time ever that HIV-infected blood has been sent with malicious intent through the U.S. mail system, a spokesman for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service said.

In the weeks leading up to Obama's inauguration, Saad Hussein, an Ethiopian refugee in his late 20's, sent an envelope addressed to "Barack Obama" to offices of the Illinois government in Springfield, Ill., according to court documents. The envelope contained a series of unusual items, including a letter with reddish stains and an admission ticket for Obama's election-night celebration in Chicago's Grant Park. Court documents said Hussein, who takes drugs to treat a mental illness, later told FBI agents he is "very sick with HIV" and cut his fingers with a razor so he could bleed on the letter.

Hazmat teams were called in after the envelope was opened, and offices of the Illinois Department on Aging and the Department of Revenue were locked down for nearly two hours, locking 300 staffers in their offices, court documents said.

3. This is rare because it doesn't work.
You have to be a certain level of stupid to think otherwise.

6. Long dried blood is not infective
because the HIV virus is such a fragile one. However, there are quite a few nasty bacteria that could make a good home for themselves on it.

I hope he gets the help he so desperately needs. It's a testament to the epic failure of our health care system that he hasn't thus far.

10. Prison has taken the place of the state mental hospital
which means that deinstitutionalization accomplished absolutely nothing that the civil liberties lawyers wanted it to.

I worked in a state mental hospital down south and the facilities were austere, to say the least. However, they were still much more humane than the prison system.

Obviously what we're doing now is not working. While I would hate to see it as easy to put women nobody wants any more into the booby hatch to get rid of them, I'd very much like to see the standard of "a danger to oneself" interpreted a lot less strictly.

I have a personal stake in this, a cousin who goes off his meds often enough to ruin himself financially and end up on the street with alarming frequency. Were we able to get him picked up and on medication before he wrecked everything, he'd have a much nicer life.

He's a good guy. He deserves a lot better than he's getting. So did Mr. Hussein.

14. I lived in Rockland county NY...
When the institutions were deregulated. There was a very large facility there and they pretty much just released everyone. It was one of the worst things I've ever seen, most of them became homeless almost immediately and there were mentally handicapped homeless people all over just about over night.

11. Where he will be given a compentency or sanity eval
found incompetent, and will spend the rest of his life being treated for his underlying mental illness, at which point his physical illness will kill him.

After Hinkley, most presidential threateners, even the non-crazy ones, get evaluated. No way this guy will be sentenced, though. He's clearly insane under the federal statue.

8. So what did he have against Obama? I know dried blood won't
infect anyone, but the clip doesn't give any reason why this nut was after Obama.

you gotta hand it to them, they're being creative. Such desperation. What kills me is that these are the very people who will benefit the most from Obama's efforts.

PS Maybe I heard it here but I very recently read about a guy who got a stem cell treatment for Leukemia which coincidentally was resistant to HIV and the guy's HIV went away.

What a crime that we weren't allowed to help people earlier. (Off topic)
