North Korea accuses U.S. of telling 'whopping lie'
Associated Press

Seoul, South Korea — North Korea accused the United States on Saturday of telling a "whopping lie" in claiming the Communist country has a uranium-based weapons program, an issue likely to be a key dispute at upcoming six-country talks on the North's nuclear ambitions.

The United States, the two Koreas, China, Russia and Japan are to resume the talks in Beijing on Wednesday. Their first meeting in August ended without much progress.

North Korea has repeatedly denied a U.S. contention that it has a highly enriched uranium program in addition to its publicly acknowledged plutonium program.

"The story about the 'enriched uranium program' much touted by the U.S. is nothing but a whopping lie," North Korea's official KCNA news agency said.

1. I wonder
if this might be a 'cry wolf' strategy. As in, NK probably does have them, but just how many nations will believe *'s claims of that now, this time? The world would require a higher standard of proof- not that the original standard was ever met in the first place, mind. But I'm sure NK knows this, and I bet they'll now sit back and see what happens.

* is a proven liar on international matters. NK knows this as well as the rest of us, and although their leader may be crazy as a loon (no offense to loons), it would be a serious mistake to believe he's stupid as well.

This is turning into a most dangerous game for the world as a whole. It's not an arms race- this is a race to domination, in ever greater increments.

Is it going to come to nations "separate but equal" (on a planetary, multinational level... not segregation!)) vs. "one and enslaved" for our world? Is that a possible future outcome of all this?

Yeah, deep thoughts after 2 AM. It happens.

4. I thought it was North Korea that was claiming they had the bomb
In fact they have been claiming they have ICBMs with nuclear tipped weapons. I guess when it comes to two great LIARS trying to out-do each other The US and North Korea are about equal.

5. Whoops. read a little more carefully
they said they didn't have the enriches uranium bombs in addition to the plutonium bombs. That's believable; enriching uranium is a much more expensive process than pulling together some plutonium from your electric power generator. I still think NK's bluffing about having any bombs at all, though. China agrees with me.....

6. Whopping, eh?
I absolutely agree with Kgfnally that this has become a game of one-upmanship. What the hell ever happened to prudence and diplomacy? We are all standing on the sidelines, watching the people who supposedly represent us, in a deadly game of Russian Roulette.

They have shown us that they know nothing about diplomacy or negotiations. All they understand is brute force, threats and lies.

The rest of the world watches on, aghast. Include me in that group.
