Monaco's Prince Rainier hospitalised for heart problems
MONACO : Monaco's 80-year-old Prince Rainier has been hospitalised for the third time in two months, suffering from "acute heart problems," the palace said Sunday.

"Biological exams confirmed this diagnosis corresponded with a new coronary lesion situated just below the heart bypass operation carried out in November 1994," a medical statement put out by the palace said.

The prince is one of the world's longest-reigning monarchs. He acceded to power in the tiny Mediterranean enclave in 1949, three years before Queen Elizabeth of England.

Rainier will be succeeded by his son Albert, who is unmarried. Stephanie and Caroline, who between them have seven children, have been the focus of constant attention from the popular European press.

1. "Popular European press"?
You've got to be kidding! Just ask the Monaco royal family...along with the others...including Prince William and Prince Harry, et. al.

BTW, I understand that unless Albert produces an heir...then Monaco reverts back to France. (Although somebody once told me that one of his sisters could accede to the throne and thereby avert a crisis.)

Anybody out there got more info?

Enquiring DU'ers wanna know!

:-)

2. I thought they changed the rule
so that Caroline's boy could inherit the "throne."
