U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton spends the afternoon in homes in Miami Lakes in an attempt to impress upon women the importance of registering to vote.

Hillary Clinton -- no joke.

The U.S. senator from New York has been in South Florida on a fundraising and speaking tour, which led her to Miami Lakes on Sunday knocking on doors to encourage women to vote.

''One vote really does make a difference,'' the former first lady said. ``A lot of our elections are very close.''

U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton encourages South Florida Democrats to mobilize for the 2004 vote at events in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton had to shout over the applause and adoration showered on her at a Democratic party fundraiser Saturday billed as ``the most successful political event in the history of Broward County.''

More than 1,000 people attended the sold-out event at the Wyndham Bonaventure Hotel in Weston. The Jefferson Jackson Dinner is the local party's biggest annual fundraiser and its main source of get-out-the-vote money.

Earlier Saturday, Clinton, D-New York, appeared at events at Parrot Jungle in Miami and in Key West. She is scheduled to attend two separate fundraisers for her Senate reelection campaign today in Miami-Dade, hosted by lawyers Chris Korge and Ira Leesfield.

Broward Democratic Party Chairman Mitch Ceasar said the event in Weston raised ''well over'' $100,000, which he said was a record-setting amount for Broward Democrats or any county Democratic party in Florida.
