U.S. marshal's body found in Mexico
Source: CNN

(CNN) -- The body of a U.S. marshal has been discovered in Juarez, Mexico, according to the U.S. Marshals Service, the latest discovery in a wave of violence that has gripped towns along the U.S.-Mexico border in recent months.

The body of Deputy Marshal Vincent Bustamante, who was the subject of an arrest warrant accusing him of criminal theft of government property, was found in Juarez on Wednesday, said Marshals Service spokesman Jeff Carter.

Chihuahua state police said the body had multiple wounds to the head, apparently consistent with an execution-style shooting, according to Edgar Roman, a reporter with XHIJ television in Juarez.

Bustamante appeared to have been shot in the back of the head, said a federal law enforcement source.

The federal source, who was not authorized to speak about the case and asked not to be named, told CNN that Bustamante was accused of stealing U.S. government property and pawning it. He would buy the items back on pay days and return them, the source said.

3. That's what's got me scratching my head too.
It's not like you get a fair price for pawning stuff, so if he was strapped for cash, how could he afford to buy them back?

I'm assuming he had some sort of drug problem or something?

In any case, I'm sorry that he had to meet such a gruesome end.

7. I've known people to do this when needing money

I knew a lady who would not sell her violin, but use it as collateral for a loan. If she didn't pay the loan back within a certain amount of time, they would keep the violin and she'd have to buy it back at the pawn shop price. I'm guessing that is what this guy did.

8. I got trapped into paying on a pawn
for a long time. I pawned some jewelry for a little extra cash, then promptly had to take a lower-paying job. I couldn't make bills and get the jewelry out, so I just kept making payments. I ended up paying far more than the jewelry was worth, except for the sentimental value of course.

and (as I found out after the fact) using it to do drug deals over the weekend.
As far as I know, he was always able to return the
original amount to the till by the time the
owner returned on Monday.

9. Seems the guy was running from the law

after an arrest warrant was issued on March 17. It was most unwise for a U.S. Marshal to try to hide among the scorpions in Juarez.

-------------------------

Bustamante had been placed on modified duty status after he was accused of pawning a government shotgun, said Fernando Karl, Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Texas. "He had some financial problems," Karl said about the accusations against Bustamante.
