Conyers Not Yet Ready to Impeach
Edited on Tue Feb-24-04 08:28 PM by NewJerseyDem

An aide to House Judiciary ranking member John Conyers (D) denied Tuesday that the Michigan lawmaker is drafting articles of impeachment against President Bush, but declined to close the door on that prospect.

“We are aware of no plans to file articles of impeachment at present,” the aide said.

The demurral came in response to comments made Sunday by Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader. Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Nader suggested, in the course of reaffirming his own support for Bush’s impeachment, that Conyers “is going to file such a request.”

“Our Founding Fathers gave the Congress the right to fire the president. It shouldn’t be such a big deal,” Nader said. “For far more trivial reasons, you know, Clinton was impeached.”

4. No she doesn't
She wants to be senate president. better job, more power. There will be no election in 2008. Kerry will be running again.

6. Uh, what's the point?
You need to do some number-crunching if you think an impeachment bill would go anywhere in this Congress.

5. What's the point?
With the Republicans in control, it's just a waste of time, IMHO.

There are too many other important things that Conyers and others need to focus on, including getting re-elected and get more Dems elected, not to mention the economy, Iraq, and fighting any other crap that Delay and company come up with.

WE can take care of getting Bush out in November.

7. History would show that impeachment was brought against him - but a Pub
congress kept it from happening.

8. Yes, and that would be a good thing.
It is important that the Dems do bring impeachment proceedings as far as they can, even though I imagine that would mean they would stall in committee. Minimum fuss. Just force the repukes on the committee to vote against them.

11. No, doing that would
a) distract from real issues

b) antagonize the public

c) distract from the election

d) be a complete waste of time

18. No, I think
That trying to impeach him might actually weaken any kind of standing he would have in November. Karl Rove won't have the ability to pull Bush's ass out of the fire if everyone in the country except the House of Representatives wants to get rid of his lying ass.

9. I have mixed feelings on this...
On the one hand, nail the asshole, keep him on the defensive, keep the media focussed on his bullshit.... On the other hand, these things always have a backlash; the public feels that we are piling on and they will have sympathy for monkeyhead. Clinton had strong approval ratings after being impeached.

& vote some Dems into Congress & then have REAL investigations
about 9/11 & Iraq.

17. If they don't steal the election again. Remember, they own the new
touch screens and they are definitely fixable.

13. Yet another thing to detest the Repugs for...
co-opting impeachment and making it so distasteful.

14. Democrats could use this however.
We can say that although Bush deserves impeachment for multiple reasons, we refuse to put the country through what we had to endure when Clinton was impeached for a triviality in comparison.

It might be in our favor to bring up how much money Republicans through down a rat hole, trying to get rid of a popular President who was legitimately elected, twice. It was undoubtedly one of the nastiest events in political history.

16. No. Waiting is deadly! The whole purpose of Clinton's impeachment was
for the purpose of just that reason..."oh, we wouldn't want to go through that again". He is putting our country in terrible jeopardy with his immoral and illegal activities. Because of Bush we are in more danger than ever before.

15. Then Conyers is not doing his job. Impeachment and trial is clearly
called for for Bush and his henchmen. What are we waiting for...the complete destruction of our democracy, our economy and our military?? How much longer do these fools wait?
